some images removed after library scan followed by refresh of Library

im in the process of adding emby hoping to severe my ties with plex. so far i really like it.

but im having a problem with some movies. after i do a library scan then refresh the meta data, some of the images are deleted.  I've repeated this a couple times. all the one's with issues had problems when i first added them to the library. these were mostly because the filenames had errors... misspelling, no spaces... so to correct them in emby, i used the identify option and entered the imdb id. everyone correctly pulled the meta data and images. I then locked each one so there wouldn't be an issue

but the lock isn't working for the image. for the other data, it is.

so after the problem happens, i can edit the image and click search in the primary box. everyone of them have the correct images. i can pick one and everything gets updated....

if i rescan and re-refresh, the problem happens again...

i think if i fix the file name that would solve the problem for most of them. i didn't be cause they are old movies and need re-ripped. i've been too lazy to dig the disks out of the attic.

anyone have any suggestion?

Hi there, can you please go over a specific example? Thanks.

thank you for the fast response....

yes to the example.... i worked out the following that seems to consistently recreate the problem.

the 1979 version of Beyond the Poseidon Adventure. i spelled Poseidon wrong (poseideon - see below). on the thumbnail (which is just a random frame from the movie), i clicked the ... to  open the menu. i pick Identify. in the panel that opens, i enter the imdb id #. i click search and a thumbnail appears with the correct image. selecting that image correctly populates all the metadata for the movie and also image. i then check the lock option at the bottom of the edit window. then save it.

if i then click the cog to manage emby setting. click library from the left side menu. then click the button 'scan library files'. after the scan completes, i then click the menu for the specific library that contains this movie. i select to refresh metadata. i then click the library itself, then hit cntrl + f5 to clear the browser cache.  if i return back to the thumbnail for this movie, the image is gone and the random frame from the movie replaced it.

if i select the menu again on the thumbnail and choice edit image, i see the random frame in the Primary box. i click the search icon and the correct image appears. i can select it and the image correctly appears in the movie and for the movie thumbnail. the lock check box remained check thru the whole process.

/data/Videos/Movies/Movies/Beyond the Poseideon Adventure (1979)/Beyond the Poseideon Adventure (1979).mkv

I did try unchecking the 'lock' check box, then fixing the image, then re locking, but that didn't do anything.

I'm not sure every step i listed above is necessary... perhaps the cntrl + f5 is not... idk... but following these steps recreates it everytime.

What images do you have in the

data/Videos/Movies/Movies/Beyond the Poseideon Adventure (1979)

folder?

it's the incorrect picture that displays. i looked at a hand full of others. in all the one's with the wrong pic, there is no .nfo file. for the one's with the correct file, there is a.nfo file.

i know i enabled the library to use the .nfo. the metadata read and save are both checked.

i'm pretty sure i have some titles that display the correct pic, but have no .nfo file....

i guess i thought that might have something to do with the manual input of the imdb id.

Try either deleting that image file, or enabling Emby Server to save images to media folders so that it can replace it. Then try again and let us know how that compares. Thanks.

i tried deleting the file after your last post, assuming you thought it might be keeping the correct one from downloading. however, after I deleted it, it restores the same wrong file when the auto detect updates the title.

I've had the server save "art work to the media folder" on from the beginning. I do not have the 'download in advanced' checked.

I'm just guessing based on the circumstantial observations, but if i manually create the .nfo for all the one's that have problems, will that create an issue with the server? what i mean is if the server doesn't create the file, will there be problems with the database?

I appreciate the help.

i've attached screenshots of the lib config panel... but i forgot to enable advanced... so it' isn't 100%

one thing that seems to be populating the each problematic folder with the .nfo, correct image, and fan art, is if i again identify the title (even tho all is correct by the image), but include the title, year, and imdb id...

not sure all of this is necessary to get the files to show... i was going to do all the titles starting with 'A'. and see if the fixes persist. i'll make sure each title folder gets all the expected files.

Hi, did you run a library scan after deleting the image file?

Posted

i didn't start one manually. however, i do have the real time monitoring enabled, so figured that was running.

should i disable this an only do manual scans?

Posted

after i did a manual library scan (all libraries), then refresh metadata for that specific library, all the images i fixed using "edit image" reverted back. it might actually be a backdrop image im seeing, but in the primary slot.

for the one's that i fixed by re-identifying them with title, year, and imdb #, they were all okay... i'll change a few more then keep an eye on them to see if they persist.

i haven't run a manual scan or manual metadata refresh since i started chatting with you. for fear i lose all the manual fixes.... i've a large collection so took some time to fix them all.

there were a couple that wouldn't update correctly. i just figured that they are what they are.

on a side note, i do love emby so much better than plex... wish i'd found you guys years ago...  i plan to upgrade to premium... likely towards the end of the month.
