Android Auto stops playing certain tracks

Hi

This appears to be a bug in Android Auto but only affects playing certain tracks.  The majority of tracks play fine but a small number (maybe 1 or 2% of my library) get to a specific point in the track and it will then stop playing.  Its always the same tracks and always the same point in these tracks.

The obvious initial thought is that there's a problem with these mp3 tracks.  But every other mp3 player I have plays these tracks with no issue.  Further  to this, Emby for Android also plays these tracks with no issue - that is Emby for Android on the same device and the same tracks!  Only Emby for Android Auto has this issue.

Does anyone else experience this?  Its very annoying since there are certain tracks I can listed to on my phone using Emby Android but not when I'm in the car using Emby for Android Auto.

Thanks,
Warren.

Hi Luke,

Sorry, I posted the reply in the wrong chat.  Examples are in the chat below.  I can repost here if it helps.

OK, reposted here

Attached are 3 examples and below are the times when they stop.

Def Leppard\Women  1:53
Def Leppard\Love Bites   1:51
Queen\Bohemian Rhapsody   1:35

After more testing with the above tracks I've found that on Android Auto when these tracks get to these specific points it will either skip to the next track or will continue playing but with no audio (i.e. it continues playing to the end of the track but with no sound, then starts the next track normally).  On Emby for Android I sometimes get the same experience as Android Auto but sometimes it will play the track fully without issue.

Android Auto never plays these tracks successfully.

Emby in a web browser (on Windows 10) or Emby Theatre always plays these tracks successfully and never has issues, as with other mp3 players I've used over the years.

I hope this helps.  I guess there's something in the file at this point, maybe an invalid value, that's causing Emby for Android a problem but its annoying that every other platform and mp3 player plays these tracks successfully.  It affects random tracks through my entire library so would be incredibly difficult to identify and rip all of these from the original CDs again.  So I'm hoping you can fix it within Emby.

Thanks,
Warren.

would be great if someone could take a look at this.  As I explained, I have many hundreds of CDs I've ripped to mp3 and a large number have at least one track that wont play in Emby for Android Auto but will play in Emby for Android (and every other player I have).  I have far too many CDs to rip them all again so would be very grateful if someone could help.

Thanks,
Warren.

@warrencalvert can you please try this version:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/u1obwrckg4lkjc8/emby-android-google-armeabi-v7a-release.apk?dl=0

And then provide a log from the android app:

Thanks !

I've had a look through the log to see if there's anything helpful.

The first song I played at 20:39:53 has the issue (Def Leppard - Women) which always stops playing at exactly 1 min 53 secs

This would make it 20:41:46 and at this point in the log there's a message 'onDownstreamFormatChanged' and a little later 'positionDiscontinuity'

There's also an error in the log 'no valid server address' after 19s of playing this track but dont think this is relevant or the cause of this issue

Does this help?  I originally ripped all my CDs to mp3 around 15 years ago and as I explained have had no issues with any of them ever before Emby for Android Auto.  The fact that every other player including Emby for Android plays them perfectly reinforces that its only on android auto there's an issue.

I've also tried other ANdroid auto players with the same mp3 files and they also play OK so its only Emby that has the issue.

The sample files are posted above if you have time to take a look.

Many thanks,
Warren.
