Tombar 1 Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 Hi I love Emby, but there's one thing that really annoys me in the Android app: why is it not possible to set the preferred "aspect ratio" in the settings? Or at least keep it saved at the last value you set? It always fall back to "auto", and on most modern phone, this is not optimal: the picture is not taking a much space as it could. Let me explain: This is an old Nexus 5 with a rectangular screen. Aspect ratio "auto" will work nicely and take the whole screen (displayed in red): Now to most modern phones: inspired by the iPhone, most do not have a rectangular display anymore, but rounded corners: as I understand the aspect ratio "auto", it will only use fully straight edges, resulting in a smaller-than-necessary picture: Here's the latests iPhone (I know it's not Android , but its design is copied a lot on Android phones), with the red rectangle showing the picture. Note that the picture is reduced in "auto" due to the rounded corners: Similarly, a Pixel 5 (my phone): And the most selling Samsung Android Phone, the A51: The aspect ratio that works best on modern phones with rounded corner is not "auto" but "cover". With "cover", you lose a few pixels because the corners will be lost, but the picture is filled nicely to all edges. This is a big difference to "auto", because the picture will be much larger. The problem is, there is no way to set "cover" as your preferred aspect ratio. It will always go to "auto". Every single time you open a video. The app will not keep the aspect ratio you set - even stopping and resuming the video, you will have to set the aspect ratio to "cover" manually again. With time, this is really, really annoying if you watch a lot of content on your phone. --> Please, please, dear Emby devs: could you please add the "preferred aspect ratio" in the settings? Or at the very least, keep it saved as the value you last set? For the "quality"-setting, this works. I'm sure it would be easy to save the setting as well for the aspect ratio. It's a very "low hanging fruit" and would be a big improvement in usability. Many, many thanks.
Luke 42077 Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 Hi, yes it's certainly possible to have this as a setting in future updates. Thanks for the feedback.
Tombar 1 Posted January 30, 2022 Author Posted January 30, 2022 Thanks for your quick response, Luke. This is the only feature I really miss, and I'm sure a lot of others do too. Keep up the great work! 1
