thunderclap 52 Posted January 27, 2022 Posted January 27, 2022 Long time Plex user here. I posted this in the Plex Reddit but haven't received a satisfactory answer, so I thought I'd ask here. As I rip more and more UHD titles I've noticed Plex can't transcode my HDR content and constantly pauses before stopping all together. This usually occurs if subtitles are on, but for remote users it happens too, with or without subtitles. I'm on an Unraid server and do hardware transcoding with the iCPU. What I find interesting is that while Plex can't handle transcoding my HDR content, Emby doesn't seem to have an issue at all. Why? Why can Emby do HDR transcoding without batting an eye while Plex struggles? I've attached two screenshots showing Plex and Emby stats. Any input/thoughts would be appreciated.
FrostByte 5392 Posted January 27, 2022 Posted January 27, 2022 Emby has something called softworkz which Plex doesn't. 5

pwhodges 2014 Posted January 27, 2022 Posted January 27, 2022 "Just" better programming (probably based around a deeper understanding of the process and the hardware to execute it). As a bit of a one-time whiz programmer myself (decades ago now), I can appreciate how even a modest difference in understanding can lead to a dramatic difference in the resulting programming. Paul 1
