Question regarding the syncing of the Trakt plugin

Hello all,

As a new Emby user I'm hoping this question hasn't been asked too many times...
I'm kind of in a pickle with the Trakt plugin and its syncing settings.

So there are three settings, although to be honest, I'm not completely sure how they work.
But in a way I love the fact that it syncs my watched state from Trakt and would like to keep it that way.
At the same time, it's also making it a bit annoying because of some shows I'm rewatching.
(I know the paid Trakt version has an option to easily rewatch shows, but not sure if this is the answer and also not interested in another subscription...)

So when I would like to rewatch a show on Emby, it actually syncs with Trakt and puts it all on watched.
I tried putting it all on unwatched in Emby, but this also set the season on unwatched in Trakt.

Is it possible to set something unwatched in Emby, without triggering Trakt, while at the same time Trakt can tell Emby once what has been watched?
Or is it either on or off?
At the moment I have all of these checked:

- Skip unwatched import from Trakt
- Update Trakt watched history during Scheduled Task
- Sync Collection during Scheduled Task

Hope my question is clear.

Thanks in advance!

You might want to test the 2 scheduled tasks.

If you delete the triggers within each of those, I believe it will remove the automatic update of Emby to Trakt and Trakt to Emby. At that point you can sync manually. I believe the biggest concern you have is that you want to set items as unwatched in Emby without Trakt overwriting the Emby watched status right? If that's the ONLY thing you want to do, just deleting the trigger on "Import playstates from trakt.tv" should do the trick. The problem is getting future Trakt.tv status into Emby, because if you pull in Trakt.tv status, it'll continually overwrite your Emby watched status unless you change the trakt.tv status to unwatched as well. That said, if you keep "sync library to trakt.tv" enabled, your videos will continue syncing to trakt.tv, and since you will already have the status in emby, you won't need to pull it in again. The only time it will become an issue is when you add new videos of previously watched videos and want to pull the watched status in. I'm not aware of any workaround for that. It seems like a feature request to exclude certain tv series from the sync, but I don't think that function currently exists.

i think i am in the same boat as @captainkanpai.

embys trakt behaviour is not working well for me....for what seems like at least already watched shows (perhaps others too)

I have been testing behaviour of continue watching ribbon by rewatching watched shows to 50%.

i have a free trakt account

my setttings are

image.png.63a0299e4a9a3d978ceee9f73465f553.png

the plugin is  scrobbling playback positions on media.

image.png.48fa9e965e31ad9903349880da3e170a.png

and the import playstates task is definitely resetting playback positions in emby on media (under some conditions tbd)...despite trakt knowing the playback position (see above).

image.png.2240ea5a43183cd542e44bc48c0e648c.png

for me the issue is limited to a particular library/path.

(None of my tv libraries are excluded from trakt)

media in one library has it playback position respected by the import playstates tasks (the test episode is watched on emby and trakt).

media in another library has them wiped in emby...(test episodes have play back positions recorded in emby and trakt, but are not getting marked watched in trakt..need to investigate why)

so when "import playstates from trakt.tv" is run,  playback position perhaps isnt getting respected on content which is not watched...

or perhaps the ids are mismatched somehow. there is more investigation to be done to narrow this down, but thought id report experience so far...

I have completely given up on using Trakt with Emby. The plugin works fine for me for a while. But at some point the plugin malfunctions somehow and my trakt account becomes locked because of "too many accesses."

I have contacted Trakt and they said that it is the Emby plugin that is causing the problem and they say, on their web site, that Emby is not allowed because the plugin does not conform to their requirements.

I have posted about this and received no help from Emby or the person/people that wrote the plugin but any constructive responses were nowhere to be found so I simply gave up. While it would be nice to have Trakt working correctly with Emby it just seems impossible so I have given up and no longer use Trakt as it is worthless to me.

on reflection my situation is nothing like the OPs, i will create a separate thread.

My sense is that the best outcome is emby and trakt are 100% aligned.

(if their api and schemas allow for that)

(and if the usage cases logically/robustly allow for that)

  • watched on Emby = watched on Trakt
  • unwatched on Emby = unwatched on Trakt
  • unwatched on Emby with a 50% resume point= unwatched on Trakt with a 50% resume point
  • watched on Emby with a 70% resume point=watched on Trakt with a 70% resume point

Would your rewatch behaviour experience/concern be fixed if the trakt plugin 100% respected resume points?

i feel that would be better than (if i have understood correctly) suggesting the plugin allows emby and trakt to get out of sync.

Yea most likely it is not matching up to the content that is on Emby.

hi I have configured Trakt and if I click import playstates in the tasks I get the correct playstates.

but last execution was 2 days ago (also. manuel) - seems I have to trigger it manually every time.

why? what do I oversee? thanks!!

Do you need to keep importing from trakt? It's usually only done once on first setup.

as you see in my other post with my z9x pro device I have to use another solution. so yes.

and it's also named with sync playstates from Trakt.

why isn't it doing that?

watching with emby works fine (exporting states)

that's the general idea of trakt?

Then you can create a schedule for the scheduled task. Maybe do it every 24 hours, but I wouldn't do any more frequently than that or trakt may lock your account for too much activity.

oh my that will not work.

then I can search manually. the times are completely different every day. I thought that's a push like with my other devices? they are sending with watching. you can check trakt 'currently watching' site

the preferred alternative is you build 'me' an app that can handle the players with RTD 1619BPD chip 🙃 to my knowledge there are many not only my Zidoo Z9X pro.

jellyfin was able to do it they don't have your resources.... (and your prices... ;)

Do you want it to sync with trakt as you're watching a show and mark it complete in trakt after you're done? If so, it will do that. I don't recall configuring that anywhere, so maybe its a default for trakt to sync watched progress.

? not sure I get that.. I want that the emby server stays in connect with trakt and if that's not possible it should get automatically the latest playstates if I open an emby player.

I def don't want to maintain anything in trakt directly. but trakt has the playstates from my Zidoo player.

so ending an episode with zidoo means continue to watch in the sleeping room with emby. or any other combination 😁

I thought that's the idea of trakt? no rocket science?

it works the other way. I watch something in emby and continue with the Zidoo player

Yes, that's what it should do. I don't think it's immediate though and you'll have to set the schedule to sync every hour or so.

You can't put the Emby player on Zidoo?

Posted

as written, an hourly schedule cannot be the solution. emby needs to implement the trakt solution correctly.

emby doesn't work on the device as written. I've tried everything I can. I'm not an it guy and surely no beta tester. the forums are exploding. jellyfin works a bit. they've managed it. also problems, I'm not following it in detail.

I pay for Emby because I like it and want to use it. but with that device currently not possible

over and out good night

On Zidoo you can enable external players in the Emby app and then you can play with the native zidoo player. That even supports resuming.

sure I know. I've done that. I think I've tried so many things I'm becoming an expert...

with that there also many bugs and disadvantages. srt subs are not working is only one thing. and emby would still not have  playstates from trakt, the original reason for my message here...

Can you try the latest update to the Emby Trakt plugin and see how things compare?
