SDMattman 6 Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 I've had this problem for awhile now, and it's finally at the point where I'm motivated to troubleshoot it. Emby is not generating thumbnail (bif) files. Previously this was working when my drives were formatted as NTFS, but I migrated over to EXT3. Thinking the problem was related to permissions I messed around for a bit, even getting to the point where I gave everyone full permissions to the media folder. It didn't help. The library thumbnails option is checked, and I've launched the scheduled task. I don't know what else to look at. Any thoughts or tips? Thanks
Luke 42077 Posted January 22, 2022 Posted January 22, 2022 Hi there, please run the scheduled task and then attach the emby server log after it has completed: Thanks.
SDMattman 6 Posted January 22, 2022 Author Posted January 22, 2022 Wow.. that was easy. Emby usually just works, so I haven't dug into the logs too much. Once I cracked open the log I found that there was a single directory that emby did not have write access to, and it was tripping the process up. It looks like if emby encounters an error it stops trying the remaining portions of the path (and library). However, BIF files still were not being created - even when running the scheudled thumbnail task. The soultion that worked for me was using the touch command on a file (after correcting the above mentioned rights issue). After that the scan library files operation created a BIF file. I tried touching files and running the scheudled thumbnail task, but that didn't do anything.
