mrmarkfr 8 Posted January 15, 2022 Posted January 15, 2022 I gave a friend access to my server the other day as she was visiting a friend, and wanted to watch a show through a browser. She had forgotten her password, so couldn't use her ebmy acct, and didn't want to try resetting it through her phone. Long story short, she clicked on the wrong account, and it made me realize that from my publicly accessible website, all users can access all accounts. This brought up a few questions. 1) Is there a way to have a password that I can apply per user on my server, that doesn't affect peoples personal emby accounts, but does limit them to their own accounts on my server? 2) is there a way to reset the watched status on a users account, so that I could reset the watched status of the shows they watched on the other account? 3) Is there a way to have a non-user guest to allow for temporary access, without tracking what they've watched, for instances like this?

User and Connect accounts are two different accounts. If a user account does not have a password sure everyone in the world that has access to your server and knows that username or clicks on User if visible can log in. 24 minutes ago, mrmarkfr said: 2) is there a way to reset the watched status on a users account, so that I could reset the watched status of the shows they watched on the other account? You would log in as that user and use Multi-select and select all libraries and click the three dot menus and mark as unplayed. Of if you use the Server Configuration Backup plugin you can create a test user so you have a user with no playback history and restore this test users userdata to any user. 27 minutes ago, mrmarkfr said: 3) Is there a way to have a non-user guest to allow for temporary access, without tracking what they've watched, for instances like this? Sorry no all user/userdata is tracked.
mrmarkfr 8 Posted January 15, 2022 Author Posted January 15, 2022 Thanks for that. When a friend first showed me EMBY, years ago, he sent me a weblink, and it went right into a user, it didn't start with the "select your user" option. It was a user that had full access to the media, and no watched history, and no password. Does that type of option still exist within Emby?

Nowadays you will have to login, but you can setup users with blank passwords and then all you have to do is click on them.
