701h 12 Posted January 13, 2022 Posted January 13, 2022 (edited) Hi Luke, Happy new year. Most days I have to restart my emby server because I get playback error, "no compatible streams....". It seems to happen only with my laptop, which keeps requiring transcoding for some reason.. My phone works fine as it does directplay. Why does one need transcoding when the other does not. they are both on the same network (same wifi)? Why is the transcoding failing? If I restart emby server from the dashboard, the problem goes away....until next time. The stream to my laptop still transcodes, where the stream to my phone does not, but both streams do work after the restart. Please see the attached logs. ffmpeg.txt embyserver.txt Edited January 13, 2022 by 701h
cul8rmom1 5 Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Not too much information there to work with. Where is the server running? What application are you are you running on your laptop to access the server? Are you using an actual application or a browser? (Looks like you are using chrome to hit it. I dont think you can direct stream anything to chrome. Or I haven’t ever seen it.) What kind of phone are you using? Are you using an application or a browser. I bet you are using an actual app and not a browser. Try using the browser on your phone to hit it and see if it transcodes. Ask a ambiguous question and the complete answer will be really really really long. (I mean if someone were to give you an answer that incorporated every possible combination of all of the details you didn’t provide … how long that answer would be?) Ask a detailed question and get a useful answer :D. I hit a bizzare problem with an Apple TV where all the other ones in my house would play anime with subtitles and this one would just hang. Everything else ran perfectly with subtitles and everything. All of the versions were the same etc. etc. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it on the appletv and it works now. I am very glad I did that before going down the path of troubleshooting that. It would have been a huge time sink. When trying to fix a computer issue .. My motto is… try everything that makes sense first. Then try everything else. Cheers,
Luke 42083 Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Hi, we're looking into this. Thanks for reporting.
Luke 42083 Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 Quote Why does one need transcoding when the other does not. Hi, it depends on what each app/device supports. Are you still running into this? Are your graphics drivers on the server up to date? As a test, if you disable hardware transcoding in server transcoding settings, how does that compare?
701h 12 Posted January 19, 2022 Author Posted January 19, 2022 (edited) Thanks Luke, I'm using the app on my S21 phone, and the website on my laptop. It does still randomly occur. There is a new driver version available, but its not mega out of date. I will update them now, test for a few days, then remove hardware transcoding for a few days if the problem still remains. 701h 12 Posted February 3, 2022 Author Posted February 3, 2022 Hi Luke, I finally got back to this today. I've tried many things, but not got a consistent response to any changes. I've tried with and without HW accel, even turned it off in the client browser.. I've attached a couple of log files. Today, using the Emby web GUI, I went to the tv guide to start a channel. I clicked play, it did the spinning circle, then came up with the no streams error. I just kept hitting play again, and then it started playing, no changes were made, I just hit play again. I don't remember if I hit play 1 or 2 more times before it started playing, but it wasn't anything more than that. Thanks Rich good ffmpeg file.txt emby log file.txt ffmpeg error file.txt

701h 12 Posted February 4, 2022 Author Posted February 4, 2022 (edited) It seems worse. Here's an attached log after I set "enable hardware acceleration..." to No. It took many many goes of hitting play before the stream started. embylog-software-trans.txt Edited February 4, 2022 by 701h

701h 12 Posted February 9, 2022 Author Posted February 9, 2022 Any ideas what to check or tweak here?
701h 12 Posted February 10, 2022 Author Posted February 10, 2022 Seems to only be with the live TV stream, and also seems to be a fairly recent thing as I've not had any problems with this before. Do the logs suggest any reason for the transcoding failing?
