hooj1981 5 Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 Hi. This has been an issue for a while, but i've finally remembered to ask about it... I've got collections enabled and the minimum automatic collection size set to 2, but I still keep getting collections created that have a single movie in them. Am I missing another setting somewhere? Is there a way to rebuild the collection library? Currently running version 4.6.7.0. Thanks
Gilgamesh_48 1240 Posted January 13, 2022 Posted January 13, 2022 (edited) I believe the "automatic" collection "feature" is extremely flawed. I have never managed to get even reasonable collections working correctly. Finally I just allowed the automatic feature to create collections and then I turned it off and then spent several hours fixing what it screwed up. My movie library is large enough that I actually saved time by doing it that way. The problems with the automatic collection feature can be summed up by just three examples: 1. As you pointed out the crappy engine creates some/many collections that have only one entry. I think that is caused by some collections having several movies that are supposed to be in it but I have only one of them in my database. 2. It creates multiple collections that really should be only one. Like Godzilla. 3. The names of several collections are really quite meaningless as they are named after directors or actors or studio or some other name that really gives no clue as to what is inside.when the movies really should not be grouped together. But that is no longer important as it is clear that the source Emby uses does not have good/reasonable collection info so I found the best approach for me is to just allow the automatic feature to run one time and then turn it off and maintain the collections from there. It is possible that all the names and sizes and content of collections makes perfect sense to many people but it does not make sense to me. I am just thankful that Emby does not force the use of the automatic feature. You can restart collections by simply going into the "collection" view and selecting all the collections and deleting them. Then you will have no collections and can start over from scratch. Luke 42083 Posted January 13, 2022 Posted January 13, 2022 Hi, given that this happened in the past, there's really no way to tell why they were created. What I would do is delete the Collections that you don't want, then if it happens again, let's look at a specific example and we can dig into why it's getting created. Thanks.
