Anyone else seeing this a lot lately on Android TV devices when playing back a file? I have seen it a ton on my Shield and Tivo Stream 4K. Trying to figure out why/what is causing it but having a hard time. If I pick VLC as the video player it seems to play everytime.

Hi there, let's look at an example:

I will add that the Android TV App site on a black screen with then spinning wheel. But the server dashboard shows that its playing.

All HEVC files are not playing on my Philips 805/12 TV via EMBY for Android TV. I can tell EMBY to use external player (VLC) and it plays fine.
It worked on Thursday but now it doesn't, I'll also add I can play the HEVC video's fine on my PC, Laptop and Mobile

Hi.  There is no way for us to know without a specific example but are either of you using the beta server?

I plan to do some more digging this week, when the device in question is not in use.

But to answer your question for now my Server is v4.6.7.0

Hi.  If Cloudflare is involved, please be sure you have disabled caching for your video files.

I do use cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.3 & 1.0.0.3) but this is all local network usage.

That's in your cloudfare options. Are you using cloudfare?

Ahh in that case no. I will report back later with further details of my issues.

I will also side load the Arm8a standard app to see if that is a viable workaround

I changed over to cloudflare several months ago and i would say overall emby has been damn solid minus the reported x265 direct playback issue on Emby for Android devices, specifically 23.976215 FPS media only.

The tutorial i followed to set up cloudflare was: https://blog.awelswynol.co.uk/2018-01-setting-up-cloudflare-with-emby/

I just checked my cloudflare settings: Argo tiered cache is disabled and Caching Level is set to Standard.

I believe these are the correct caching settings?

I also came across this Cloudflare setup tutorial below. In it it says to add page rules to bypass cache for your video files and to enable cache for your images. Are these steps required for Emby to work correctly? Specifically will it fix the Spinning circle problem when trying to play back a video file?

I am on 4.6.7.0

Try turning off Cloudfare caching and see if that helps.

I think so, yes.  We have had a rash of reports over the past few months (after CF changed something I think) about problems with items taking a very long time to start that has been tied back to CF trying to cache the file.  Also, I believe it is in  your best interest to not have them caching your video files...

Maybe @ebror someone can help me create the Rule page so it is pointing to the correct directory. It's confusing for me since no files are actually hosted on CF, everything is local.

My external domain in emby is: emby.xyz.com

Public https port number is: 443

My local file locations in emby are at: \\SuperServer\Media\Movies   and   \\SuperServer\Media\TV Shows

For the rules page would my URL be:  https://emby.xyz.com/Media  ??  and would that work for both of the above directories? This doesn't look correct.

The "how to" also says to "cache everything" for image files which makes sense. i would need to know my directory path for that too.

thanks for the help.

@cayars don't we have a post or article somewhere with the proper rules needed?

Yes, I think so.  Specifically the rule to bypass caching on all your videos.  That is the issue people are running into here.  Playback is delayed (sometime so long that it times out) by CF trying to cache a huge file.

From your log, it looks like maybe you are trying to play an unsupported DolbyVision profile.  Does "Playback Correction..." work?
