Turn off Transcoding

I'm running Emby Server 4.6.4.0 on a Synology device.  The device is not powerful enough to reliably transcode live playback streams.  That is fine because the devices I watch on can all playback the direct DVR streams I'm recording from an HDHomerun tuner.  The problem I have is that the streams often start transcoding due to insufficient bit-rate.  The clients are all set to AUTO and the network is plenty fast enough so I'm not sure why it decides it needs to transcode.  My solution is to set the user settings so that playing transcoded media is not allowed.  When I do that, everything plays back fine with the direct streams (no stuttering, pauses or other signs that the bit rate is insufficient.)  Is there a global option to simply turn of transcoding for the server (instead of the user?)  Is there a reason it may misinterpreted the available bandwidth and start transcoding to change the bit rate when it does not need to?

Thanks

HI, are these on remote connections? On remote connections, auto will generally be on the conservative side, so that's why you  might be seeing this. On the local network though it should not be limited by bitrate at all.

It is primarily on remote connections.  I've got an average of 300mb upload so it should be fine, and it is fine when using a user that disallows transcoding.  I posted because I've started to see it on the local network when I'm recording from the IP tuner and trying to play back a different stream simultaneously.  That, of course, requires more bandwidth, but it is a hardwired gigabit connection between all devices.  When I switch to a user that has "allow transcoding" turned off, then it plays the direct stream fine and the, simultaneous recording seems OK (no breakup, cutouts or audio glitches.)  I was just wondering if I can globally disallow transcoding on the server (until I get something that can handle it.)

Thanks

Hi, no, you'd have to use the user permissions if you really want to do that.

I have a few Synology boxes as well.  DS1817, ds1821 ds1815 .. i think are the model numbers.  How much ram do you have in the thing?  What does CPU utilization look like on the Synology box?  Go into the hardware tab and turn off memory compression.  It says it speeds it up .. but i have had the opposite experience.  Synology boxes work great but not for transcoding anything of interest.  All of the machines I have had were equipped with low power processors.  The nas box could push the full GB on each of the 4 interfaces and did everything well.  How many nics are you using on the Synology?  Any bonds or fun stuff like that?  Have you specified what interface you are using in the Emby config?
