How well does the Shield work as a server?

Does it work better on the updated model? 

Would it work any better than my current macOS 2.2 Ghz Intel i7 8GB RAM?

What about large libraries?

Can you still use the same device as a client without issues?

Hi.  It is going to depend on your exact requirements but, if you require a lot of transcoding or have very high bitrate content, then I wouldn't think it would perform as well as you would like.  With very high bitrate content, you are likely to have some issues with being I/O bound trying to have the device serving as both a server and a client.  The device simply isn't designed for that kind of thing.

With "normal" content (2-20Mb) and few transcoding requirements, it may work well.  You would need to test it for your specific situation.
