AviatorBimmer 28 Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 Hello all, I am having an issue which is driving me crazy and not allowing me to keep Emby server running and streaming a movie remotely to family members WHILE I game on my Xbox Series X. The situation is the following: If I am playing online with a multiplayer game such as Battlefield or Warzone, and a family member connects remotely to Emby and begins streaming a movie, my Xbox connection will pause briefly about every 5 seconds. This is very frustrating because it prevents me from playing competitively online. If there is NO ONE remotely connected to Emby OR someone is watching a movie with Emby locally on my LAN, my Xbox connection is not affected at all. It is only remote users streaming that causes the pauses every 5 seconds or so. Just FYI, I have Spectrum Cable Internet with 400 Mbit downloads and 20 Mbits uploads. As soon as I shutdown Emby or the remote user disconnects, I experience no more pauses on my Xbox. Has anyone experienced this before or hace any ideas or suggestions to look into? Thanks in advance.
Luke 42086 Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 Hi, perhaps have them lower their in-app quality setting, or use the server-side controls to restrict the quality they can use.

Hi Luke, I already do that. I have it set server side at 3 Mbps. With a 20 Mbit upload, I don't see why with even just 1 user streaming, should cause my connection to pause for a microsecond every 5 seconds or so. It's as if the Emby connection is taking over the entire upload connection for that brief moment when it needs to stream data, thus halting every other connection. This is very weird.
Carlo 4561 Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 Hi, this sounds like some kind of Internet congestion is taking place. What kind of Internet service do you have? Do you have either the Xbox or Emby Server on a Wifi connection? If so you should try to change this so both use Ethernet plugged into a switch with the switch plugged into the router. This way the router only touches IP traffic that is actually in/out bound and doesn't waste resources acting like a switch. Do you have any kind of QOS in your router? If so try setting that up to give priority to "gaming" or to the IP used by Xbox. Most likely it's your upload bandwidth causing the problem. What do you get if you run this speedtest? https://speed.cloudflare.com Get a screen capture of that when things are working well. The next time you see the issue mentioned here in this thread run that same test again and get a screen capture. You will likely see the upload bandwidth lower with ping and jitter much higher indicating a bandwidth/latency issue.
AviatorBimmer 28 Posted December 31, 2021 Author Posted December 31, 2021 Hi guys, My Emby server is connected via 1GB LAN to the router. My Xbox is currently on WiFi but I will also get this problem when connecting the Xbox to LAN via wire. I did do a quick change last night and that was to make sure that CUVID NVIDIA is the top most selection for all Preferred Hardware Decoders in the Transcoding section of Emby. It was late at night but I had my daughter stream a movie to her home while I played on the Xbox and I did NOT experience any more pauses. Could it be this did the trick? I will do more testing today. I think the top most selection before these changes was NVDEC NVIDIA.
Luke 42086 Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 That's interesting, can we please look at some examples? Thanks.
