Hi.  Is this your server or someone else's?

Some more details will be needed: can you access the server from some other device? are you connecting locally or remotely? http or https? was there any recent change in your network setup?

This was someone else's server who is no longer a friend.

I don't think this is a technical issue which this forum can help with.

You'll have to ask them why their server is no longer available, or you can remove the server from the server selection screen. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.

i have the same problem when i am outside my internal network. I can't get access from an Android device. I get the message that the server is not available. But via iPad and iPhone there is no problem.

The same picture as mine

I have run the suggested solution several times

Device(s): FireTv 4K / Android Box (Telekom Magenta Box)

Hi.  Make sure the WAN address shown on the server dashboard is correct - meaning typing exactly that into a web browser gets to your server.

Hi Ebr, I'm sorry to hear that. But I even came up with that myself 😉
I tried via Emby Connect and all other ways. Every device works except the FireTv and the Android box. With Emby on my iPad and laptop, I can connect to my Synology Emby server from any foreign wifi network.

Does the user have to be shown on the remote side, or can it stay "hidden"?

Sorry to hear what?  I asked if the remote/WAN address shown on your server dashboard is correct?  Is it?

Not sure what you mean here, can you explain further?

Thanks.

You can specify in each user's properties whether they are shown on the login screen locally or remotely.  Hiding the user doesn't in itself prevent logging in.

Ah.  Thanks for the clarification.  Let us know how it works out.

Hello, I'm am having exactly the same issue - so hopefully no hijacking.

First of all, I have connected my Emby with several Devices, including my parents and friends FireTV, but recently they cannot use the FireTV app to login anymore.

The error doesn't tell me anything/reasons, its just "failed to connect to server".

I can login from remote with a browser and the URL provided from the emby-management console.
I can login from emby app on my phone (ios and android)
I can login from local network.

The login from FireTV Emby does not work anymore, tho I used it in the past.
Any Idea how to debug ? The emby log itself doesnt seem to display anything.

I switched the default port to something else - tho it doesnt matter because the connection overall works well with all devices but firetv stick it seems.

It seems like some issue with FireTV emby app?

Edit:

I might add, the certificate is valid an generated via lets-encrypt

Edit 2:

I tried the plain URL with the default emby port 8096 without HTTPS. (before I tried with https://...  and port: 13335)
Same issue - the app doesn't want to connect

Edit 3:

I'm using synology DS918 with Emby (manual installed) Version 4.6.4.0

Hi.  You should upgrade your server to 4.6.7

Exactly where?  Did you make sure your router is forwarding to the proper port now?

If the external port changed as well, have you made sure it is correct in the Fire TV app?  Have you tried a manual login from there?

There are issues with the Amazon devices accepting lets-encrypt certs due to bad intermediates.  If this is your problem then the  beta release of the app should solve it.

Ok, i´ve tried some options:

Server installed (last Beta) 4.7.19
Port Forwarding by FritzBox and Diskstation DS920+ - OK (testet by iPhone & iPad) via Safari (Emby Connect & direct access via https://..................:8920 )

  1. Emby Connect error Page - see attachement
  2. manuell adress: Server derzeitig nicht erreichbar / server is not available

Hi.  It is the beta release of the app you would need to use if it is a certificate issue.  Link provided in previous message.

Thanks.

sorry, i have not provided options for sideload options.
the problem is not only on the FireTv but also on a Google Android TV box. On Apple devices and PC it works.
Probably I can't test it until the next official Android version.

I hope you understand my text - it´s translated by deepl.com

Can you provide a server log and an exact time when you attempted connecting with the app?

Posted

no log is created at this time. so i think to have no connection to the server at all.

I'm have updated to 4.6.7.0 now, and the only change is now, that FireTV app doesn't even display "failed to connect" but just nothing.

I am on the screen with emby-connect pin, click on "manually add", type all my info, click okay and just return to the previous screen, no message nothing.
I can click on "manually add" again from that page an repeat the cycle.

Android App 3.2.32 works well as well, beside the fact that I received a popup on the first try to approve the cert.

And of course - changing the port means changing it in the router/port-forwarding only.
As I said, even just piping through the 8096 http port (external to internal) doesn't work either, so it is not related to certificates.

I only tried manual connection, have not used emby-connect.
But sideloading is something I cannot do with my parents/friends FireTv sticks.

I can send you the url/port to try with your own device if you would like to check some logs.
Send me a PM if you want to know the url/raw-log files, you don't need an user account anyways.

What he means is probably that the log exist, but beside the usual stuff, its doesn't contain any information on why the connection was rejected or failed.

The connection attempt doesn't show up in the server log!? I have debug logging enabled and cannot find anything unless I use a device that - at least - successfully connects to the server

Thats right. The log showes no updates after the connections (Emby connect or the manuell connect). The timestamp was not updated after the connect attempt
