Bandwidth vs transcoding ,

I’d appreciate a bit of advice please.

Presently my internet is 30 mb down, 9 mb up. I’ve 3 remote clients, the “in-laws”. Due to the limited upload bandwidth I’ve limited them to 2mb. Emby transcodes the films down to the 2 mb.
The good news is I get upgraded to 960mb, synchronous, in the middle of January. The remote clients have 30+ mb download bandwidth.

The majority of films are 1080p, a few of them are 4K, but the vast majority are 1080p.

My question is, if I remove the limit of 2mb, given the “new” bandwidth, will the films download ok?

My aim is to reduce the transcoding as much as possible, “saving” it for the 4K transcoding I can’t avoid. I have a 1050ti.

Aside what difference does applying the nvidea patch make to the number of concurrent transcodes it supports?

Thanks

I assume you mean if they will play ok, as they will download ok either way, even on 2 mbps, it'll just take more time? Yes, 30 mbps for 1080p media should generally be enough, bitrate for those typically ranges from single digits to 10-20 mbps (of course, depending on number of factors, but for some general usage it'll suffice).

Majority of Nvidia cards have 3-sessions ingrained limit, patching it basically "unlocks" it and ebables as many transcodes as your card can handle. For your 1050Ti, that should typically give you 10+ 1080p transcodes.

How or what is 'patching' the GPU?

It's basically patching a file.   The instructions are in Github.  Search for "NVENC and NvFBC patches for Windows Nvidia drivers" in Google.

It won't matter what your bandwidth is if your client's ISPs throttle their bandwidth. I have friends who fight with Emby as their provider constantly throttles their connection to make it unusable.  I have gigabit with my provider, they have gigabit with theirs, and their provider hobbles their connection to me at 2mbit.  They have complained and complained and their provider just tells them "tough beans we can do what we want".

Their provider is Rogers Cable here in Canada.  Many providers do deep packet inspection and throttle anything on their network that they feel will disrupt the experience from other users.
