High GPU Utilization

Recommended Posts

My Emby server is installed on my daily PC, when I browse to Emby local host, and play a move directly (regardless of whether its 1080P or 4k, my GPU is pinned at 98-100% on the service FFMPEG in task manager.

While watching from the Emby windows application, it bounces from 5-40% using the service Electron.

This high usage is new, and I just updated to version 4.6.7.0 as well as upgraded my GPU to a 3080TI. My utilization wasn't anywhere near these levels with my GTX 1080 while on the previous version of Emby.

Does this version of Emby have a bug, or different settings I need to adjust? Or is there something else that could be causing this issue?

Here are some screen-shots of task-manager & HWINFO. These are while watching 4k/HDR  on a 2k non-HDR monitor. One test is using the Windows app, and the other is while browsing to the local host Emby address and playing directly. Both tests were done on the server itself, which is also my daily PC.

I tested with a SDR 1080P movie as well, and the utilization was similar.

I played the same video on my iPad w/ the Emby app, and the GPU utilization was showing 0-1%  ...I'm confused as to why it shows high while watching from my computer. I know this is new behavior, but I don't know if it started happening after upgrading to the latest version of Emby, or after I swapped out my GPU, as I did both within a day or two.

High utilization is direct play from local host.

Hi, most likely the iPad was able to direct play without server transcoding, thus resulting in minimal resource consumption on the server. But can we please look at examples of what and how you're playing using the information requested in how to report a media playback issue? Thanks !
