Just saw this topic...

...and thought we could have one for 2021 as well.

So, what is your highlight of 2021 regarding Emby?

That I'm still here. :)

I know we had some really good things like improvements to TV Channel lineups, transcoding and tone mapping, it's all the little improvements that I often like the best. Sometimes it's the little things that bother me the most.

Now in 2022 if we can turn off both camera upload & Collections (or remove it), get some better management screens for conversions and syncs (err downloads) and multi-user playlists I think a lot of people will be happy.

I'll put together a list for Feb-Dec later. LOL
But the next version of Live TV would have to be on that last!

Before I jump to conclusions, what are you suggesting with this statement?

The top highlight for me was definitely HDR tonemapping. Extremely impressive what Emby can do with tonemapping.

Honorable Mentions would be:

  1. Improve playlist performance for large playlists (this one is a HUGE deal) - Update on server is still in beta, but client updates improved performance as well.
  2. Channel tagging - (@VicMoore's bulk metadata editor made this a thousand times better. It's so good it should be a default plugin! 😁)
  3. Multi-select in playlists
  4. Home videos landing screen option
  5. Support wm/year and original year tags
  6. Ability to select different show/season images
  7. Add tags tab to libraries in client
  8. Dolby Vision in Android TV

My disappointments though are:

  1. Still no acceptable Xbox One app that can play 4k videos
  2. DVR improvements such as record to specific library and "keyword" recordings are missing
  3. No Watch Together feature
  4. No playlist download on Android which retains the actual playlist vs splitting all the songs into artists and albums
  5. A growing feature/UI parity gap between Emby Theater and Android TV

Nothing to jump to conclusions about.  I was just saying it's nice sometimes to just get little things done as that can go a long way.  Examples that could be done along the same lines that would make many people happy and have been asked for would be having a global hide collections or ability to delete that library. Being able to turn off camera uploads, etc...

The TV thing was a joke with the rest of what I said.  I was saying I'd be happy if all those things were done in 2022. Then I'd come up with a list for the other 11 months.  Get it?

Good list.  Hopefully you'll like the design of the unified Windows app when released which could take care of 3 of your items in one shot.

Gotcha, I thought you meant "kill camera uploads". LOL

Indeed. I'm on the edge of my seat. REALLY can't wait to try it out.

An Xbox app that could play 4K while using HD audio and trigger HDR would be at the top of my wish list for 2022 also.

As far as highlights go even though I never use transcoding I guess in the big picture of things I would vote TM at the top of things Emby implemented this year.

HDR Tone Mapping..now if only the community would understand that currently DolbyVision tone mapping is not possible, and that it's a beast on it's own :P

If Emby is technically aware this is not HDR10, then they could instantly fix this by simply sending a message to the client prior to playback that 'Tone Mapping / Colour Correction is not possible on this Video' .

That would be great and all but I am sure the idiots will still complain because of their ignorance.  Because let's face it, the majority of people here have the attitude that "it should just F$Y$%#ING WORK!!" and then blame Luke et al when what they are trying to do is not technically possible, and call Emby a garbage product.  But we all have to start somewhere.
