Unable to play music in playlist

When I have songs in a playlist that have been added when I play an album, I'm unable to play other songs in the playlist. The app will properly advance to the next song in the playlist when the current song ends, I just can't seem to play any of the songs from the list manually.

I should clarify that this issue only occurs when I'm casting to a Chromecast speaker. If I'm just playing the music locally on my phone, I can tap different songs in the playlist and they play properly.
