Problems with 4K HEVC playback

I use a Synology DS920+, connected to a 2019 Nvidia Shield Pro via ethernet. Some, but not all, 4K HEVC files have very choppy video playback. Is there a checklist of settings for the client and/or the server that need to be set? What is the best process to find the cause of the issue

The first thing I would do is look at SFN and see if it's transcoding or streaming.  If it is then try and figure out why

Thanks. Upon further research, it looks like corrupted files, as lots of players fail to play them.
