dcruff 15 Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 Getting ready to migrate my Emby data to a new server. I've already set the option for Metadata savers so that a separate Nfo file is currently being kept in each media folder. I've now set the option to "Save artwork into media folders" but this only appears to work with new movie additions to the library, or changes to the artwork for any specific media. I've tried "Refresh Metadata" and "Scan Library Files", but I can't get the images to be added to the individual media folders. This is a large library with lots of image modifications. How can I get the current artwork to be saved in the folders?
Luke 42085 Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 Hi, you've done the right thing. There is currently no option to move the location of your existing images, other than removing existing ones and then doing manual metadata refreshes.
dcruff 15 Posted December 7, 2021 Author Posted December 7, 2021 If I get this right, you're saying that when I spin up the new server and copy over all of the media folders, I will have all of the same artwork problems that I've spent years fixing? No work-around? Right now, new media additions or artwork changes get stored in the media folders, but the older media will need to use the automated processes, which make mistakes on a few percent of the movies. With a library of 4000, that will be a lot.
rbjtech 5284 Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 Unfortunately yes. Any metadata that was saved/modified before you moved to 'save with the media' is mapped in the emby database as local and is unique to that emby instance. Therefore, if you build a brand new emby database, it has no knowledge of this previous metadata, and thus will try and get it again (and this time save it with the media). tbh - I'm surprised there is not a 'migration' plugin to do this as technically it should not be that difficult to do as all locations are stored in the dB. If you want to keep the existing 'local' metadata on a new build, then you literally need to copy everything in the Emby folder (including the local metadata), but post the copy, it will still be 'local' and not with the media.
Luke 42085 Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 I'm simply saying that when you make changes to your library options, they only apply to new content going forward. The library options dialog has help text about this. If you want to apply it to content that has already been scanned, you'll need to do manual refreshes of metadata.
dcruff 15 Posted December 8, 2021 Author Posted December 8, 2021 Manual Refreshes of data? I've gone into one of my media folders and done a "Refresh Metadata" and the images still don't get stored in the folder. It seems that the only way to do that would be to delete the image and then add a new one.
dcruff 15 Posted December 8, 2021 Author Posted December 8, 2021 OK, I think that you've provided a path for me - I can "copy everything in the Emby folder (including the local metadata)" over to the new server. I'm assuming that the folders would need to all be named identical to what they are now.
