Garbonzo17 26 Posted December 6, 2021 Posted December 6, 2021 I am new to UNRAID. Relatively new to Dockers as well, but I have been running OpenMedavault for a bit now... and just moved everything to my UNRAID build this week. I want to go with what is going to make the most sense, on OMV I was using Linuxserver.io's implementation for Emby, Sonarr, Radarr and a couple of other things. Other than paths and some other minor differences (and binhex's probably being arch not debian) I don't know if it matters one way or another... I am sure these others were built for a reason, but I can't discern from the descriptions what... If anyone has some pros/cons as to any particular docker to go with I would love the assist!
Luke 42077 Posted December 6, 2021 Posted December 6, 2021 HI, we can't speak for the other containers but we're happy to answer any questions on the Emby container that you might have. Thanks !
Garbonzo17 26 Posted December 7, 2021 Author Posted December 7, 2021 Yeah, may not have been the place to pose this question. I guess I am looking for other UNRAID users experiences and things they maybe wished they had known going in that made things easier. Maybe somewhere like Redit would be more appropriate. Although with the official uraid docker I am curious about the pid and gid being set to 2... most use 99/100 (nobody/users) for those... but like I said, I am new to this, and just trying to decide on the best containers to use to build a similar mediaserver stack as I did on OpenMediaVault (via portainer) I may just end up modifying the paths/variables/etc in my old stack and just building that... I'll get there, but wanted user experiences, was not looking for dev "support" - so like I said, probably NOT the place here... However, if you know of a great place to get the kind of info I am seeking, please let me know! -G 1

But even though i ditched unraid, my main docker server uses primarily LinuxServer dockers as they are updated very promptly have the best documentation available if you get stuck and work flawlessly with their swag proxy docker. So i always look first to see if they have an image and if not i then find the most downloaded version of any docker i choose to use
Garbonzo17 26 Posted December 14, 2021 Author Posted December 14, 2021 Thanks for the input. I had a nice stack on OpenMediaVault that I really liked because I could easily adapt it in portainer's stack editor to accommodate hardware migrations, by simply opening the text file in notepad++ and just use find/replace to update paths etc... and after running up against a few "issues" using binhex's containers on unraid (which to be fair are really solid too) I am considering backing up my current config tomorrow and deploying the old stack to try to compare performances a little better (and re-think some permission issues)... and I have also been wanting to try out SWAG and compare it to what I am doing currently with NginixProxyManager... or even try out the nginix/cloudflare setup @pir8radio has documented extensively. So if you moved off of unraid, what are you using these days? Thanks again -G

Thanks again -G Well for my Emby dockers and other docker containers that i want remote access to im hosting mine on a powerful cloud server, and to be honest i love tinkering, so i go naked so to speak with Debian 11, Docker and thats it. I use portainer to manage basics but otherwise im a command line person. So i create all containers in terminal. I like that as it reduces variables for error. And to be fair i can pretty much be up and running on a new setup in 30 minutes with all containers running. I use rclone to mount my external drives and keep all the paths the same for easy moves. For home it depends, My main unit is a pc come server running proxmox, which has 3 VM's, 1 is a pure debian 11 container with docker as per remote, this runs with the same portainer / swag setup with local domain resolved via adguard, the other a windows VM and a Xpenology Nas VM Also run a Pi4 with DietPI (Debian 11), Docker and Portainer lol. Unraid is nice but i just got bored with it, Truenas i didnt get on with, But I find Linuxserver Docker containers to be 100% reliable across their range, never had an issue with any of them, and Swag is pretty cool if you okay with command line, no webui which keeps it light and to be fair it's a setup and forget kind of thing, Fact it has nginx, fail2ban built in is a nice plus
Garbonzo17 26 Posted December 22, 2021 Author Posted December 22, 2021 I think I am trying to figure out why the Official Emby unraid docker is using GID=2 PID=2 and things like that...

You should change the ID's to match that of a user on your system. Obviously Root=0 0. so thats not best practise On your distro you would of created a username other than root this is normally in the 1000's region, Just type in terminal cat /etc/passwd To see all users and group ID's and pick the one of your non root user
Garbonzo17 26 Posted December 24, 2021 Author Posted December 24, 2021 Yeah, thanks, I got it. On UNRAID it usually 99 (nobody) and 100 (group) which is what I use. I was confused by the "default value" being set to 2. But I basically set it up the same way as I had the binhex/emby docker as well... It was easier to pass my nvidia card to the official docker for some reason.. Regardless everything seems to be working smoothly... .. Now gotta get my 10gb card working right.. Thanks again for the input -g 1 1
