How Can I Prevent EMBY From Combining Media?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

How can I prevent EMBY from automatically combining 2 media files into one?

For example, if I have two different files (Graduation - Part 1 & Graduation - Part 2), EMBY combines both in "Graduation" and puts Part 2 as a sub-chapter of the original file.

Thanks for the quick reply.  What do you mean by a different naming scheme?  Is there a way to prevent file stacking?  I went to the article you posted but I don't see how I can prevent file stacking.

You can't use any of the variable the cause file stacking in the naming scheme.

So maybe something like Graduation (1) & Graduation (2).

@jblake68 unfortunately you can't, so you'd have to name the files differently to prevent it from happening. We can look at better solutions in future updates. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.

This was very helpful, thank you everyone.

I've asked Luke about this before, and naming things in insane ways is the only way to fix this, and even then it doesn't always work.  You just have to be on top of it and split them apart when emby decides to be stupid and join things.

I have a series named White Album and another named White Album 2 and they are 2 different series but emby is combining them together. I can't rename them because that is literally their names. How do I stop emby from combining these 2 shows together?

How exactly are they named, just by that name?

Have not tested but adding year is usually the best solution.

White Album (2009)

White Album 2 (2013)

Or depending metadata provider adding providerid is fool proof.  TV Naming | Emby Documentation

White Album [tvdbid=84553]

White Album 2 [tvdbid=272369]

White Album [tmdbid=28502]

White Album 2 [tmdbid=70072]

Note if you write nfo with media you will need to remove media from library, delete nfo/images, ensure a library scan has finishing and readd media to library to ensure all db data has been removed for that media.

But here is a quick test with adding year as without it they do get merged.

If you do not want to rename they you will need to disable the library automatic merge option.

and reidentify one or both to correct their provider metadata.

Yeah wow thank you so much. I didn't know you could inform Emby of the tvdb id in the folder name. That seems to have worked great! Thanks a lot!
