Guest Posted December 2, 2021 Posted December 2, 2021 I have the metadata in my files saved as artist feat. artist when there are multiple artists. Emby changes them to artist; artist. I change them back the way I want them, lock the metadata so no changes and then go back in and emby has pushed them back to artist; artist. Why does emby change the way I have them saved in metadata? What's the point of locking it so no changes are made if emby just changes them back?
Luke 42078 Posted December 2, 2021 Posted December 2, 2021 HI there, can you please go over a specific example? Thanks.
Guest Posted December 2, 2021 Posted December 2, 2021 I changed this on this morning back to Brandy feat. 2 Chainz & Tyga and Emby has already changed it back to 2 Chainz;Brandy;Tyga
Luke 42078 Posted December 2, 2021 Posted December 2, 2021 Have you checked the embedded metadata within your audio files? We do not split on the & character.
Guest Posted December 2, 2021 Posted December 2, 2021 Yes I scrubbed every single track. Checked Artist, Album, Album Artist and removed Music Brainz tags, composers, producers everything except for Album Artist, Artist and Title. Cleaned out everything so they would show right. And any file that I change any information in Emby; I click the checkbox for Lock this item to prevent future changes.
Luke 42078 Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 What software are you using to edit the embedded information?
Guest Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 Hopefully this will help; these are the steps I have done here recently. 1. Removed the music library from my Emby. 2. Removed ALL emby metadata plugins. (Only plugins I have installed are Cover Art, Diagnostics, DLNA, MovieDB, Server Config Backup and Sonos Controller). Restarted emby server to make the library remove and plugins take effect. 3. Ran ALL music and music videos through Media Monkey to check all metadata. Removed ALL directors, conductors, publishers, Music Brainz tags, comments. Only information left in the metadata is artwork, filename, title, artists (contributing artists), album artist and album. 4. Ran ALL music and music videos through mp3Tag and did the exact same scrubbing as done in Media Monkey. (This way I had run all music through 2 separate metadata editors to ensure everything was clean.) 5. Created new library in Emby for music and scanned files. I DID NOT refresh metadata as I don't want it to erase all the work I had just done. Went in and looked and it is doing the exact same thing! It's taking songs that have more than one artist and changing them to artist;artist. I intentionally went through two metadata editors to ensure the artists were showing the way I want them as artist feat. artist. I'm attaching screenshots to show one of the artists so you see exactly what I'm talking about. You will see screenshots for Windows Explorer, Media Monkey, mp3Tag and Emby.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 And what does ffprobe see for your example above? But I am a little lost how "feat" is getting removed as I would expect artist field but appears to be using artist-sort field @Luke another track
Luke 42078 Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 We don't currently import artist-sort, although it's possible for the future.
Guest Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 I don't know what ffprobe is. I actually checked the artist sort in mp3tag and corrected them. What's the best way to clean artist sort? If emby doesn't import artist sort; then it can't be artist sort that is doing it right?
Guest Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 Also I cleared all the publishers and genre's but somehow they are still showing?

Guest Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 I removed them from the metadata using Media Monkey and mp3Tag. Sorry I thought the screenshots you showed were of my library. My library metadata shouldn't have any artist sort, publishers or genre metadata.

But how is Emby removing "feat" then? As you can see the artist field is not delimited. Something has changed in this area as I remember having to correct all previous feat/featured artisted.

After I removed all the metadata; i created new libraries in Emby to start with clean libraries. I scanned library files and that was it. I didn't refresh metadata in Emby because I didn't want it to change or remove anything I had already done. I haven't done anything since scanning library files.
Luke 42078 Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 OK, yes we are actually splitting this. @ginjaninja I guess it's time that we stop now, right?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 (edited) Just need to know what Emby is doing, but technically "feat/featured" are two separate artists. So we need to know if users want to see this as one person or automatically delimit them? But guess everyone will have their own views on this. Really need some documentation on Music embedded tag handling. Edited December 13, 2021 by Happy2Play
Guest Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 I can't speak for other people; but if my metadata is set as artist feat. artist then I want to keep it that way. I set it that way because that's the way I want it and when I play music on phone, computer, android auto I want the contributing artists to show as artist feat. artist. That's the way it shows on regular music and other music providers.

Guest Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 @ginjaninja I removed ALL Music Brainz tags including Album, Album Artist, Artist, and Artwork.

Spoiler i would expect it is down to an interplay between how emby prefers artist tags what the emby lock meta data function actually locks, multiple tag versions in your files wether you have scanned your files since changing unlikely but possibly the way ffprobe reads the file. i think the order of tag preference is MUSICBRAINZ_ARTISTID artists* (TXXX**) artist* (TPE1**) *as eg shown in mp3tag, your tagger may show something else , ** is the id3v2 header. if you only have one tag version and you only have artist (TPE1) tag, and you havent locked metadata and you have rescanned then ffprobe and consequently emby will show 'feat' if present. otherwise YMMV and you will need to understand the interplay better i suspect to know where you are fitting in... Guest Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 Yes that is my issue. I went through Music Brainz and cleared all MB tags; then used 2 separate metadata editors (Media Monkey and mp3Tag) to ensure MB tags were removed and removed all composers, directors, producers, ISRC, encoded by etc... so that the only metadata in my files was Album Artwork, Title, Artist, Contributing Artists (Artists), Album Artist and Album. Completely wiped my previous Music library from Emby and started a whole new library. Removed ALL metadata plugins from Emby and it still shows them as Artist;Artist instead of Artist feat. Artist. Also made sure there was no Artist Sort information in the metadata as well.
ginjaninja 605 Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 if you can pm me the file and i will test/advise. thats probably easier..
