guardianali 12 Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 (edited) Have a hopefully quick HDR question I cant find a direct answer to. I have the option for "Enable HDR tone mapping:" turned on so that on non HDR supported TVs and PC, the colors wont look washed out. And it works. My question is, for black friday, I finally got a HDR 4k tv for the living room. When i play the HDR movies on it, is it showing proper color because of that setting or is it showing the proper color cause it detects a hdr screen? Do i need to turn it off to show proper HDR on the 4k HDR tv? Or is the server smart enough to know.....?? Edited November 29, 2021 by guardianali 1

Or is the app smart enough to know.....?? Assuming your TV is reporting HDR support - it'll be DirectPlayed as is, nothing to do from your side. Tonemapping occurs only on transcodes (which might or might not occur due to various reasons). Edited November 29, 2021 by GrimReaper Typo
guardianali 12 Posted November 29, 2021 Author Posted November 29, 2021 Gotcha. Ty for the quick reply. Anyway to easy tell if the hdr movie is playing directly or being transcoded?
GrimReaper 4762 Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Just now, guardianali said: Anyway to easy tell if the hdr movie is playing directly or being transcoded? Stats For Nerds would show you PlayMethod. Some TVs also show HDR toast for few secs.
