Remote access unavailable.

Hi I recently got emby premiere and I'm trying to set up remote access however something appears to be blocking it.  I'm still a noob at networking so please be patient. I ran through the guides and when I tried the open port check tool it came up with a different IP to emby's WAN, this the guide then says to reach out here.

(note I did jump a step with the guide because when I tried to set up manual port fowarding it said that the stated ports were already in use (they are being used for uPnP according to my router)

I currently run off an Orbi router  and I am running a VPN (PIA) port forwarding in enabled there.

LAN connections work.

reading through forum stuff I also ran a traceit thing as it seemed to be suggested in the past.

Tracing route to dns.google [8.8.8.8]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1   104 ms   103 ms   106 ms  10.12.18.~
  2   105 ms   105 ms   104 ms  188.214.125.~
  3   116 ms   104 ms   104 ms  212.103.51.~
  4   115 ms   103 ms   106 ms  37.120.220.~
  5   105 ms   105 ms   102 ms  15169.sgw.equinix.com [27.111.228.~]
  6   103 ms   104 ms   105 ms  108.170.240.~
  7   108 ms   102 ms   103 ms  74.125.251.~
  8   102 ms   104 ms   103 ms  dns.google [8.8.8.8]

Trace complete.

Any assistance would be appreciated

Turn off the VPN on the server machine as it's playing tricks with your network stack. :)
You then will likely see the same IP on the port check site as Emby Server shows you.

Emby Server can be made to work with a public VPN but I wouldn't recommend it unless your ISP is blocking you and you have no alternative.  At that point you have to be selective which VPN service you use because you need one that allows you to get a static IP with all ports open for your use or at least a static port all yours on a revolving pool of IPs.

You then have to setup Emby Server to use the port they gave you in the latter case above.

With the VPN off and good port check you can remove the VPN from the server so it won't interfere with it.
