sjkiss 28 Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 My kid is getting to the stage where she might want to listen to her own music. if I set up an account for her is there a way I can have her only have a subset of our music? I am less interested in parental control for explicit content and more interested in making things manageable for her. Other parents might be interested in this for their children. Our music is stored on a QNAP NAS.
GrimReaper 4740 Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 (edited) Never used it for music, but I'd guess Tags would do. Edited November 24, 2021 by GrimReaper Typo
sjkiss 28 Posted November 24, 2021 Author Posted November 24, 2021 I have answered my own question. 1) I set up a new user for my kid. 2) in the admin user screen select app settings then users. I select my kids user name and give access to all my music. 3) under parental control select restrict items with these tags. Make up a tag name for this . 4) under tag restrictions mode select allow only items with these tags 5) under the admin account, select a few albums or artists and under edit metadata, give them the tag you just made up 6) switch to your kids user profile and presto, the albums will be there Emby never ceases to amaze. The only issue is that in my kid's profile the albums are not indexed via album artist or artist as they are in the main admin account. They are only available through the album metadata. Not a big deal. And the only other bigger issue is when a better DLNA cast functionality will be added. Right now it is poor and twitchy to a HEOS. @Lukeany comments? Thanks,!
Carlo 4561 Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 (edited) @sjkiss you may be able to use Folder Access as well which could make things easier. https://emby.media/support/articles/Folder-based-Access-Control.html Using folder based access you basically have separate areas on disk all mounted to the same library in this case Music, but then can select which mount points each person has access to. So your child can have kids music while you can remove it from yours if you want. Doing it this way you don't have to worry about tagging things. It's not better or worse just different but could be a better solution depending on how you have your files/folders setup. Folder based access can be used for Movies and TV Shows as well. It can also be used for other things as well. As an example I've got over 800 Christmas movies which are fine this time of the year but I can turn them off in January if I want quite easily while they still remain part of the system.
