Scarecrow100 3 Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 PROBLEM 1: I am unable to rewind or forward through recorded content on my LG TV when I playback over the network, ie not through emby theatre. When I attempt to do this, the picture freezes. The five second skip-though feature does work but it is laboursome and prone to lag. I figured that this might have something to do with the way my LG TV is handling TS files. I managed to convert a TS file to a MP4 file and an MKV file. My LG TV was better able to handle the MKV file. Skipping through content was significantly improved. PROBLEM 2: On this basis I decided to use the conversion feature on emby. I wanted to convert the recorded TS file content to MKV and then delete the TS file. I have not been able to get this feature to work. I have tried it several times and nothing appears to happen. PROBLEM 3: When I playback recorded content through emby theatre I get momentary pauses every few seconds. ffmpeg-transcode-ec6d7247-6e59-4438-bf1d-738146228b4e_1.txt embyserver-63773222400.txt
Scarecrow100 3 Posted November 24, 2021 Author Posted November 24, 2021 Hi, I have not had a response to this query? I was wondering if I have posted this in the wrong section of the forum?
rbjtech 5284 Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 These are being recorded on the LG TV Itself onto a USB2/3 stick and then you are attempting to play them back in emby correct ? The recorded TS files appear to have all sorts of time data missing - thus emby is having a hard time playing them back as TS files in real time. I presume if you play them back via the native LG player - they work just fine ? You 'may' have to dump them into AviDemux or some external app to get timing into them if you want to keep the original quality or transcode them to a new file, which will then produce new timing and solve the issue. Using the emby convert feature - ensure you do not choose, keep original quality - as this is not possible with this type of TS file (you cannot copy the stream), but converting to another bitrate should work ok.
rbjtech 5284 Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 to add - if this doesn't solve the issue, then it may be worth recording a 10 second clip and posting the .TS file here so we have an example to look at.
Scarecrow100 3 Posted November 24, 2021 Author Posted November 24, 2021 Hi, I should have pointed out that I am a newbie. No, these are recordings made on the emby DVR located on the emby server, which I am attempting to playback via my LG TV? How do I dump the files into Avidemux or some other external app? What is the process?
rbjtech 5284 Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 What model is the DVR ? Avidemux is a free (but very mature) video editing tool - that allows you to cut ads etc, but once installed and open, just drag the .ts file into it - once it has reindexed it (timed it) then just click file, save as - MKV (original quality) and it will re-save to a perfectly timed MKV file that should not give you any trouble in emby. https://www.fosshub.com/Avidemux.html
Scarecrow100 3 Posted November 24, 2021 Author Posted November 24, 2021 Hi. It is the emby DVR software connected to the HD Homerun Quatro. Can this conversion process be done automatically when new recordings are generated?
rbjtech 5284 Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 Hmm - emby natively supports this, so it should be able to read the TS files just fine. Can you post a 10 sec or so sample so the Dev's can take a look - as you should really not need to covert anything as that is what ffmpeg (inside emby) should do for you ..

Hi there, why do you think nothing happens? Have you explored the conversions section in the emby server dashboard?
Scarecrow100 3 Posted December 4, 2021 Author Posted December 4, 2021 Hi, I think nothing happens because the TS recording has not been converted to MKV?
vaise 340 Posted December 5, 2021 Posted December 5, 2021 (edited) My ts files convert all fine. I have set it to replace the existing ones, TV format and 4Mbps. This is done as the admin user on the recordings folder from the web client. In my case, no other user has the security to do conversions. My conversions settings are set like this : Edited December 5, 2021 by vaise

Scarecrow100 3 Posted December 12, 2021 Author Posted December 12, 2021 Hi, I have run the task manually and I am still getting problems. I am very close to giving up on Emby as I am having trouble getting it to do what I want it to do in the way I want it to do. All I want to do is flawlessly record and playback HD content at full quality. At the moment I am struggling to achieve this with Emby. Not sure if this is necessarily an Emby problem or a problem with recording over the network? I have a hard drive connected to my LG TV and through my LG TV I am able to record full HD content and playback and skip though full HD content flawlessly without any lag. And…it always works. The only problem is that the LG TV has only one tuner, so I can only record one program at a time. This is the reason I opted for a HD Homerun and Emby software solution and I also liked the idea of being able to access my recorded content over the network. These are the problems I am currently experiencing with Emby: 1. Unable to skip-through TS files, so decided to use the conversion feature on Emby to convert full HD TS recordings to MKV while still maintaining the original full HD quality but I am unable to get this to work. 2. Playback on the whole is temperamental, sometimes recorded files play ok, sometimes they don’t play at all and then I sometimes get this message: “Playback Error: No compatible streams are currently available. Please try again later or contact your system administrator for details." 3. When I am able to playback recordings, I experience a lot of lag. I don’t have the time or the patience to troubleshoot these problems with Emby and will probably go back to using my hard drive connected to my LG TV to record and playback HD content as it is a reliable (not ideal) solution.
