T_Tronix 16 Posted November 20, 2021 Posted November 20, 2021 I'm using an Nvidia Shield 4K stick (This one) and noticed every time I try to stream a 4K mkv it glitches now and then. I have the Nvidia Shield wired at 1GB ethernet. Funny thing is I am using a Smart TV with Roku and when I stream the same exact file using Emby on my TCL Roku TV and plays flawlessly even though the TV is wifi connected (not wired like the Nvidia). I also noticed that when the glitches start I am having a hard time controlling the Nvidia Shield (if I press any buttons on the remote it lags tremendously as if the Nvidia is overloaded). Info about the mkv: 2160P HDR H265
ebr 16184 Posted November 20, 2021 Posted November 20, 2021 Hi. What is the bitrate of these items? The non-pro Shield is known to struggle with very high bitrate content due to it being only a 32bit OS with less memory. Try setting the buffer in the app playback settings to "Small" and see if that helps though.
T_Tronix 16 Posted November 20, 2021 Author Posted November 20, 2021 Buffer was already set to small so it's not that, and this is the files info:
rodainas 191 Posted November 20, 2021 Posted November 20, 2021 To be sure if its a limitation based on bitrate I would try to play that file using another player, like vlc or mxplayer and see how it goes.
T_Tronix 16 Posted November 20, 2021 Author Posted November 20, 2021 (edited) Plays well on VLC. VLC has even better quality it seems, sharper image. Edited November 20, 2021 by T_Tronix
ebr 16184 Posted November 21, 2021 Posted November 21, 2021 What happens if you match the frame rate on the device?
Luke 42078 Posted November 21, 2021 Posted November 21, 2021 Also Can you try side loading our standard Android app on the same device and let us know how that compares: https://emby.media/emby-for-android.html Thanks.
Lawrage 13 Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 Hey T_Tronix, Sounds like an issue i had when I bought the new shield (tube). Emby when played high quality 4k HEVC files it would play fine for a few seconds then the entire thing just freezes up and I had to hard close the emby app to get it to work again. For me playing it using an external player (VLC) and the file played fine. I own an old shield (2017) which played the files perfectly fine. I sent my Shield (tube) back and bought a Shield Pro and no issues since. 1
