learch74 5 Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Can anyone recommend an external app for FireTV that will work with Emby when playing IPTV channels? I've tried Both "MX Player" and "VLC", when I play a stored movie, I am prompted to choose my default app. However when I try and set Live TV to use an external player and select an IPTV channel from the guide I get an error "Cannot play this video format" and then a black screen. I've got a few channels with audio lag, so I was hoping an external player might fix this. Thanks in advance for any advice.
Luke 42078 Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Hi, why not just play using the emby app?
learch74 5 Posted November 19, 2021 Author Posted November 19, 2021 The app has lagging audio on my firesticks on many channels. When I play the video stream in VLC it works fine.
Luke 42078 Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Can you try side loading our standard Android app on the same device and let us know how that compares: https://emby.media/emby-for-android.html Thanks.
learch74 5 Posted November 21, 2021 Author Posted November 21, 2021 Interesting idea. So the channels work perfectly on my Android phone. I can play using VLC and MX with the android app side loaded, the channels open once and then no audio on channel change unless I reboot the firestick. The stock video player for the Emby android app on firestick has audio lag still on some channels. Probably not the best solution as I can't use the remote like a STB. Bit of a head scratcher.

Luke 42078 Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 On most devices you won't need to do this as TV mode will be enabled automatically if the android OS tells us it is a TV device. But occasionally on some you will need to.
