Podcasts and Custom Folder Types

Hi Developers,

 

I have some audiobooks and podcasts.  I would like to listen to them but I don't want them to be grouped with my music. Wouldn't it make sense to add a media folder type for audio files that are not "music"?  Even better would be to allow the user to create their own media folder type.

I second the motion. I work from home a lot, and it's convenient to stream podcasts through the Roku and listen through my TV. Currently I don't have any choice but to add podcasts to the Music folder, but I would prefer having the ability to add my own custom folders for podcasts and anything else that isn't strictly music.

 

edit: Nevermind.   Just updated and found the ability to add my own folder. I wish I could set the media type to "podcast" insstead of "music", but it's doable as is.

There is a Podcasts plugin you can add to the server and add your podcasts without having to create a new library. This is for streaming - if you have them downloaded, then I can see why you would want to setup a library folder for them.

You can setup the podcast plugin to download as well. Just to let you know that there is another option.  

 

I use the podcast plugin all the time and it works great!

Yes, I was aware that you could add the folders but it just lumps them with my music which is what I don't want. I agree, they should have allowed you to rename the media type so it could be grouped separately.

 I saw that plugin but I wanted to be able to play stuff from my local media folder so it doesn't work for me.

You can try out audio book support in the latest beta release of Emby Server. Simply create a library using the Books content type. Once scanned in you can play and resume just like you would expect with audio books. Please try it out and give us your feedback, we're listening. Thanks !
