cp41 42 Posted November 14, 2021 Posted November 14, 2021 I have been trying to implement SSL for my Emby Server. I have poured through various posts and topics and one place I seem to get stuck every time is at the SSL for Free certificate generation. All of the posts instruct to click on Manual DNS Verification, which provides the two TXT records I am supposed to install on my domain. Only I don't see this button. I don't know how to generate these TXT records in SSL for free so I can install them. Does anyone know if this SSL for Free feature no longer exists, or perhaps is only part of the Pro plan?
rbjtech 5284 Posted November 14, 2021 Posted November 14, 2021 (edited) You need to add the TXT record into your DNS services from your domain name provider. This part has nothing to do with SSL for Free, they just need to verify you own the domain and do so by doing a DNS lookup of the TXT record which you have added. Once it's verified, you can remove it. A better way to do this is to use a Cert 'bot' which automates the process - but some domain name providers don't work nicely with these bots. cp41 42 Posted November 16, 2021 Author Posted November 16, 2021 I see now. So those TXT records are only temporary for use in verification. I think SSL for Free had be add a CNAME record to do the verification, but that seems to be just an alternate method to perform the same function. Thank you for the explanation.
