What version of Emby server are you on now?

I'm currently on 4.8.10.

OK I would try clearing your download queue on the server and then creating a new download. Also make sure the Emby iOS app is granted local network access in iOS system settings.

This feature seems worse off in 4.8.10, when I click the task "Transfer Media" it says it "Last ran 9 minutes ago", despite me clicking the task. The same for Convert Media.

Downloads will sit at Ready To Transfer, as usual, and never go to their destination.

I really wish that after 2 years of using Emby that this feature would work better, if at all.

Hi, try opening the app on the android device and see if that helps get the download started.

Hey Luke,

I tried opening the app, but it still wouldn't transfer. I force closed the Emby app and tried again, but then it removed the items from the download queue. So I tried queuing it again from the app, but it still sat there and didn't transfer.

I cancelled the transfer in the admin dashboard, then tried to do the transfer via 'Download to...' but that also didn't work. I cleared the app cache and data, logged back in, still nothing.

I turned off my wifi which is local to my server and connected via cell network to my external domain, that also didn't work.

Running out of ideas I just tried switching from my 5Ghz WiFi to my 2.4Ghz channel but that also didn't work.

I was able to get a download to work by choosing "Original" for the video format so that it doesn't do a conversion, however.

When it's ready to transfer try opening the app and visiting the download settings page, and then leaving it. Just doing that alone will manually start the background download process.

Hi Luke,

I tried everything you suggested but download never starts.

Works with MacOs (Sequoia) but stuck on Ready for Transfer on any iOS device (iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro, iPad Pro...) Server 4.8.10.0 and iOS devices 2.2.31 are up to date.

To add some info, on iOS  the simple "Download" does not work at all. Pop-up is empty and click on Download button at the bottom has no effect.

Only "Download To" can be used, but as mentioned above, media are then pushed to "Ready to Transfer" and never gets downloaded further.

Hope it helps.

Thanks

Hi there

Completing my former post with new findings.

My son, iPhone with the same iOS version and same Emby version being able to download with no issues, I took one minute to activate my brain and figure out why it works for him whereas not working for me…

Eureka! The difference is that the client user I am using is also server admin. I switched that checkbox off in my user profile. Log off, Log on and voila, download works perfectly now!

Hope it helps dev in fixing once and for all this long-standing issue and bring this workaround to the user community meanwhile.

That's very interesting. I wonder if you'd update us on whether that continues to work, including on Wi-Fi or mobile. I still rarely am able to use the download function away from Wi-Fi despite all the usual "allow mobile downloads etc etc" settings being set to allow. I'll remain optimistic though!

Sure @Natelanxon

Yesterday I was out of home and so it worked remotely either Wifi or 5G.

Today I am back home and it works as well on Wifi on local network.

...as long as I am not server admin.

This bug persists on iOS using latest versions of app and server. This download has been waiting to transfer for over an hour both while the app is open and in the background. Other attempts with other episodes do the same. Downloads work fine using Infuse connected to Emby and also stream fine in the Emby app.

I am the admin yes. Does that make a difference?

It should not matter, no. They just need to be granted access to downloading.

Hi Luke,

agreed, exactly it should not matter. Especially when an admin is supposed to be more "powerful" than a user.
But in the fact it does. Download is not working when initiated with an admin profile whereas it does work when requested with non-admin user...
I reproduced it with 4 different iOS/iPadOS devices. See my posts above.

Cheers

OK we'll try to chase this down. Thanks.

Bizarrely, I can confirm this too just worked for me in the macOS app.

Please explain further how you are making the user a non-admin.  Are you turning off the "Allow this user to manage the server" option in Emby Server.Users.[user].Profile?  If so, how do you manage the rest of the server once disabled?  If not, where are you changing this?

Thanks... anxious to solve this.

That would be the only way. I have not reproduced this making any difference for what it's worth.
