aussiedropbear 1 Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 Hi, I run emby server off an old media pc and have all my mkv files on a nas. I access emby via a nvidia shield pro. I use a projector to watch my collection on projected to a 235.1 screen. The projector will automatically adjust the scope of the movie being projector. When there are subtitles to be shown, especially when there are two lines, they are projected outside the viewable area being the black bars to frame the original 235.1 aspect ratio. Is there any function to move the subtitles up into frame so they can be read? Thanks in advance.
GrimReaper 4741 Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 (edited) Haven't used positioning in a long time, but AFAIR only .srt (maybe some .ass which have no position defined) subtitles support vertical offset. Which type of subtitles are those? Edit: On the other hand, Android TV has relatively recently gained the ability to DirectPlay PGSSUB subs, don't know whether position defined within can be overridden, @ebr? ebr 16185 Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 PGS subs cannot be repositioned but text ones can. There is an option on the subtitle menu during playback.

I see no option on the subtitle menu when playing back via the nvidia shield to move subtitles up or down etc.. Could you supply a screen shot of this? Thanks
Carlo 4561 Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 Have you checked your library setups? There is a section at the bottom of the libs for some types that allows you to download SRT subs automatically. You can also download them manually as well right from Emby interface. 1

Carlo 4561 Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 Let's start with this. Go to your Library menu, pick a library with type Movie you have setup and pick that library. Turn on advanced features at the top on the right side to show all options. Scroll to the bottom of the page where there are 4 or 5 options all about SRT subtitles.
aussiedropbear 1 Posted November 11, 2021 Author Posted November 11, 2021 Thanks for the explanation. I turned on advanced for the movie library and I have checked 'download languages' 'English'. 'Open Subtitles' is unchecked Require a hash match - checked Save subtitles into media folders - checked I've played one movie but cannot see the option to move the subtitle text. I believe its PGS.. I think pretty much all I have are PGS subtitles. Will have to find one that is not.

You would need to check that and then also configure the Open Subtitles plug-in. For a quick fix, during playback, there should be a "Search..." option on the subtitle menu. Click that and search for your subs - but, again, you will need to configure the open subtitles plug-in first.
aussiedropbear 1 Posted November 11, 2021 Author Posted November 11, 2021 Thanks for the info. I tried to go to the Open Subtitles site but it is blocked due to copyright infringement. Didn't expect that but makes sense though. So at this juncture I guess Im stuck.

You can still download subtitles manually from somewhere else and then name the files according to our subtitle naming guide: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159160-subtitles

My Oppo UHD player lets me move the subtitles when I'm watching a disc. Before Emby, I would use this to hide forced foreign subs on foreign releases of English-language films by moving them off the bottom of the screen. With Emby, there's no obviously the option of just not ripping them. @aussiedropbear I've had no issues accessing Open Subtitles, but for most films I extract the PGS subtitles and then use OCR to create my own SRT file. The only time I use OS is if the disc doesn't have subtitles at all.
