Scraping music genres from Music Brainz, posible?

Hi there, i have all my music correctly tagged by artist, track name, track number, álbum name, álbum artist... everything but genres. Because there is a lot of genres, and subgenres, and its definition is subjective. Is there a way that emby server could search and import genre tags from Music Brainz, or another music db?

Is Emby not already doing that from Musicbrainz and/or TheAudioDB?  But with a quick look that can be subjective as depending on the release it could or could not have genre.

Example there are 30 releases of "Let There Be Rock" by "AC/DC" and some releases have genre and some do not.

Ideally you should tag them with the genre you want or have Picard or mp3tag tag your tracks ensuring you are getting the appropriate release.

But may need to go over specific example.

This is a example with the classic Metallica black álbum. I got It with this ID:

The genres in this release are tagged as: 

Genres

hard rock, metal, rock, thrash metal

 

But in my collection I have this álbum tagged only as "Thrash metal", that is how I defined It with mp3tag. I would like that emby can add those extra tags once It searchs for the álbum in the internet.

Okay it looks like Emby only looks at embedded genre tag.  I can see this sort of being problematic having metadata be different from embedded metadata.

But when Emby is updated to read generated nfo files (assume you have enabled them) this could/should be possible.

@LukeEmby does not read/provide any online provider genre at this time, correct?

I tested adding this album with no genre and no genre was provided.

Hi Luke! Do you mean individual track metadata? I checked previous example and track "Enter Sandman" is tagged in Musicbrainz as:

Genres

heavy metal, hard rock, metal, speed metal, rock

But no data is downloaded to Emby. In "my Enter Sandman track" only Thrash Metal genre is defined. I noticed that no ID Music Brainz track is saved. I tried to introduce It manually, but this action doesn't update other information.

Emby will only present what metadata the track actually has.  I have yet been able to get  any program to embed all the genres listed on MBZ for this album.

it looks like Picard will write out musicbrainz multiple genre into the track data..worth a try

Thank you, i will try it. What a pitty that need to use a external program, so what information does emby really download? Only pictures and album/artist information?

If devs were to use info from this query they would have to map tag-list to genre
