Hi, a question..

Why activating only the continue watching section ad both continue watching and legacy next up, show different thing in the continue watching? Check the screens.

with only continue watching section

With both the continue watching has the last watched episodes ordered by last played

Single Continue watching combines both, CW and Next up, and lists both partially played items and unplayed next. Showing them separately (with Next Up (Legacy)) shows only partially played items in CW.

Ok, now I understand why there's this difference.

The point of this tests is this..

I usually use the single continue watching section that is netflix style but with a difference.

When I start watching an episode (let says Superman & Lois referring to the screens) the related entry in CW watching section doesn't escalate to top until the episode is fully played.

I made a test on netflix starting watching a casual show. After watching the first half episode the CW first entry was the last watched show.

I expected the same behaviour on emby..

So the question is, is this a bug? Need to be implemented? Thx

That’s how it works for me on emby using only Continue Watching.

it shows partially played episodes/movies and the next up episode everything ordered by last played entry.

Right, when you activate Legacy Next Up, it will also make Continue Watching more like it used to be in older releases as well.

This is not completely true.

Here's some screens showing why:

image.thumb.png.c0dcd26238401b78f4171297dcbb5468.png

As you see in this week I watched stuff.

After watching S01E01 of Alice in borderland I watched half of Simpsons S31E17.

After stopping the play the episode remain in his position until I fully watched the episode. After that the S31E18 will be placed on top of CW.

Here's an netflix use case:

Starting from this situation

image.png.b1058f2b46e7fd6f9a2eef98cb6dd7fc.png

I watched on Chromecast tv a little of Rick and Morty and the CW become like this:

image.png.106efe0f491630c9cc0012bb8aee2e23.png

So the position of last watched media is always on top. Not only when full watching an episode like in emby..

my doubts are clear now?

I reckon something is breaking the logic in your instance then, as it works like that for majority of users, latest watched item is first in CW.

can you make a test please?

you can do it easily.

Start with a CW section with:

- Show1 episode2 not started

- Show2 episode2 not started

- Show3 episode2 not started

Now watch half of Show3 episode2 and stop play. Returning to CW screen the Show3 episode2 in my environment is still in position 3..

Yes that is the one exception - if you only partially watch an episode, it does not cause that series/episode to move to the front of the list.  There was a LOT of discussion on this topic during the beta cycle when we combined next up and continue watching and opinion was fairly split on it.

It's supposed to though, and I believe it is fully corrected in the beta server now.

I am confused - it is exactly how it behaves for me on stable 4.6.4.0. I currently have partially played episode in the front (and several others partial/unplayed down the list).

So in the next stable when partially watching an item it will placed on top of CW?

I'm now running on stable 4.6.4.0.

Can you screen me something before and after?

I can't, because you're actually right, never went between shows like that, tested it now and it behaves exactly as described. I do have both partial and next unplayed episodes down the list, but all those partials have at least one episode played, meaning they were moved on top at some point. Funny. And Eric, I don't know who had this as a preference in beta cycle but this is fairly ridiculous, I honestly never even thought this would be possible, let alone implemented (likely never paid attention to it exactly because), to watch part of an episode 10th in the line and after backing up to Home Screen - it's still 10th. I mean, really?

That was existing behavior with the original next up implementation and you know how people hate change...

Seems it is all moot now, however, as the behavior will be changed in the next release.

This will only affect the new combined CW/NU row?

Legacy will remain the same?

Just asking.

This is my exact thought..
