i think the answer to that for me is, perhaps but i don't have the time or the inclination to do so. i'd rather throw the cash at more hard disks.

but that is a helpful confirmation of my position and i shall let tdarr loose only working on audio and subs

That is certainly one way to do it. But at a certain point(s) it's just not more disks but more cabinets or storage boxes which adds up as well. 24 slot bays aren't cheap and even 8 bay enclosures run a few hundred each. But it's the price we pay for having an ever expanding collection of media. :)

2 x 2 synology with 12 each and each has an expansion unit with another 12 each :) will be looking for a 60 bay case in the next couple of years, which i reckon with increases in disk size should cover me

That will be a really sweet setup, not that you present system isn't!
Synology expansion units are ridiculous in price for what you get.  It's almost always better to just purchase another full NAS. That way you can keep one strictly for Emby and use the other for running some apps as well as more storage for Emby. :)

i actually run emby off a windows / ryzen 3950x. bought one syno new (ds2413+) and picked up a 3612xs and two expansion units off of ebay for less than the price of the new one. that was a good day :)

Yea, I bet that was a damn good day!

I'm going to have to check eBay, but I've had bad luck there in the past so I've kind of stayed away. Got to watch the person's reputation pretty well before "trading" PayPal funds. :)
