But at a certain point(s) it's just not more disks but more cabinets or storage boxes which adds up as well. 24 slot bays aren't cheap and even 8 bay enclosures run a few hundred each. But it's the price we pay for having an ever expanding collection of media.

Carlo 4561 Posted October 30, 2021 Posted October 30, 2021 That will be a really sweet setup, not that you present system isn't! Synology expansion units are ridiculous in price for what you get. It's almost always better to just purchase another full NAS. That way you can keep one strictly for Emby and use the other for running some apps as well as more storage for Emby.
Spaceboy 2573 Posted October 30, 2021 Posted October 30, 2021 i actually run emby off a windows / ryzen 3950x. bought one syno new (ds2413+) and picked up a 3612xs and two expansion units off of ebay for less than the price of the new one. that was a good day
Carlo 4561 Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 Yea, I bet that was a damn good day! I'm going to have to check eBay, but I've had bad luck there in the past so I've kind of stayed away. Got to watch the person's reputation pretty well before "trading" PayPal funds.
