Where is config file containing user playback settings?

Using linuxserver/emby

I need to find the config files where the settings-->playback for each user are stored. Specifically, I'm looking for the setting where user specified default video quality is. E.g. Auto or 4k 120Mbps for example. Looked everywhere. I found the config.xml and policy.xml files for each user but it's not specified within those xml files about playback default internet speeds....so the question is, where is it saved then?

I want to set them manually for each user to max 4k 120mpbs. The internet speed detection is horrendous in Emby IMO. Myself and my users have gigabit wired connections with the latest hardware etc. Hardware / speed / compatible video streams with clients etc is not the issue. If i start to stream a video with 'Auto" speed detection settings enabled. It will try to show me videos at 1.5Mbps on gigabit wired connection.  I'll even give it plenty of time to adjust, but it stays low bit rate causing server to transcode. If i manually change my settings to 4k 120mpbs everything direct streams no problem and issue is gone.

This is the same issue with my friend's clients. But it's annoying having to tell everyone to manually go to playback settings and set video to 4k 120mpbs so that everything direct streams. At one point I disabled transcoding, but then Emby speed detection again thinks you're internet isn't fast enough to direct stream (unless again, you forcibly set your default speeds) and would refuse to play videos.

Anyway, i would at least like to try setting the playback settings manually with a script so would appreciate it if you can help me find where such settings are saved. Thanks!

I wholly agree with this.

Just yesterday I was reconnecting a friends LG TV. She tested a TV episode and I noticed it was transcoding due to bitrate exceeds bandwidth.

The bit rate was about 5mb and her bandwidth was 100mb

App was set to auto, we switched it to 4k 100mb and it direct played as it should

The auto setting is woefully inadequate and it would be great if we could set this in the user UI like the other settings

@CassTG yea i agree. The fact that speed detection is literally off by a couple orders of magnitude is worrying...

On previous emby server setups on different systems I had the same problem with clients. Problems with setup, errors in logs, client compatibility, internet speed are 100% were not the issue. I think Emby's speed detection works by querying the server with some API requests).

However, I have a feeling that playback settings might be stored internally on the client devices and therefore not accessible at all on the server. Will wait to see what Luke or someone else can suggest.

apparently there is no way to set these playback speed settings for a user since they are app specific and must be set on the user's apps...Guess only thing you can do is tell people to manually set this playback setting to 4k 120 on each device they use.

Yep, thats what i thought in that it's stored in the app and yes it's a pain not being able to set the speed remotely
