1971camaroguy 32 Posted October 25, 2021 Posted October 25, 2021 (edited) Thinking about replacing my the 3.60ghz i7- 9700K cpu in my personal computer with an i9 and will have the i7 that I can use somewhere else. I have a server running a AMD Ryzen 7 2700 8 core CPU.....would the i7 CPU be a noticable improvment if I got a new motherboard and went with that? It's just my personal rig, and I would only be streaming in house for myself. All of my movies are direct 1:1 rips, and a lot of 4k content with files sizes upwards of 100gb. I can move the AMD board and CPU to my backup storage server, just didn't want to dump any money into this if it's not going to be an improvement over what I have now Everything is running windows 10 Thanks again Edited October 25, 2021 by 1971camaroguy
Carlo 4561 Posted October 25, 2021 Posted October 25, 2021 The advantage the i7 would bring to Emby Server (assuming your have Premiere) is the ability to transcode in hardware using the QuickSync functionality built into your i7, However, if you only use your Emby Server for home use and if everything direct plays then this added bonus would go unused if you never need to transcode. So I would check each client you use to see what method your files playback. Is it Direct Play, Direct Stream or Transcode? Check a variety of media including 4K. If you use web browsers for playback or Mobile devices make sure to test using them as well. I hope that helps.
1971camaroguy 32 Posted October 27, 2021 Author Posted October 27, 2021 Ok thanks, I checked a couple in the past and never transcoded....I'll do more extensive tests, that sound like a great idea Thanks again 1
