Emby server update available flag

Hello, 

I'm looking for a way to create an "Emby update available" flag in extrnal app, there are two ways to do it:

• if there is such flag in Emby itself, then how to read it?  
• if not and version is checked every time I visit Dashboard: can I read the current version and compare it to the latest stable?

I didn't find information about version extraction in Emby api wiki, please point to the correct section if I missed it. 

I'm using a Debian x64 installation.
