Media scan taking forever

Since the update to the new server mine has been doing a media library scan that is taking forever.  Currently it's at 43.9%.  An hour ago it was at 43.7%.  It seems to be redoing all of my music collection really, really slowly--I see lots and lots of debug entries for individual music tracks.  Any idea what is going on?

What is it looking for?  Is my meta-data information for some albums and artists going to disappear again?  The last time Media Server did something like this I lost the meta-data for probably 60% of my collection and it took hours to fix.

what i think luke is meaning is that the server is going to "probe" the audio files themselves (looking for bit-rate etc would be my guess) So it sounds like it has nothing to do with the meta-data!.
