popeye246810 4 Posted October 14, 2021 Posted October 14, 2021 As per the title is there anyway to get a decent Artist Metadata Plug-in? Musicbrainz is just awful The AudioDB is good but only for older Artists, throw a new Artist at it and watch it struggle This is one area emby really let's itself down, Plex has a great music metadata system, jellyfin has Apple music metadata plugin which is also excellent The main issue I'm having is if I put the artist image within the artist folder that's where emby leaves it, so rather than taking advantage of my stupidly fast NVME, it leaves it on my slow HDD, so the moment you try browse a library with quite a lot of artists it falls flat on its feet and causes a huge slowdown, and basically making it unusable So for this to be fixed emby either needs to copy artist image to server metadata location or have a good metadata scraper that saves everything to server metadata collection If anyone knows a faster way than selecting each artist individually and adding image in order to put the image on the server metadata location please let me know, otherwise can this be something that is looked into, it's the one thing left that keeps emby at arms length, and why I always favour Jellyfin and Plex for music
popeye246810 4 Posted October 14, 2021 Author Posted October 14, 2021 Doesn't match a good 20% of my artist especially the newer ones, this is where the Apple music metadata plugin in jellyfin shines Plus musicbrainz tends to have the same listed quite a few times then you have to guess which one is the correct one, or in my case trial and error. Ultimately emby needs to have an option to copy local metadata to server metadata location, that way issues would be solved 1
Bigmack3000 107 Posted October 14, 2021 Posted October 14, 2021 i noticed, after adding my music collection, only about half of the artists came up with pictures. But when searching for pictures for the remaining artists, last.fm had about 99% of them. Any chance of adding that as a metadata resource? 1

I noticed the same thing a few months ago. Apparently Plex will be dropping last.fm too. There was a thread about it awhile back, but not sure I can find it. What I've found helps is to make sure to add the MusicBrainz Album Artist ID to each track using mp3tag. It's easy to do in bulk as you add music, but a pain to do it the first time. I've been told repeatedly that this isn't necessary, but it seems to work. For the artists that don't have an image, I snip it from Plex then add the image to my music folder so Emby picks it up. Emby is supposed to always pick up local images first. It is a lot of work at first, but in the end, for me at least, it's running smoothly now and better than Plex because I can use m3u playlists and DLNA.

I know there have been a few times in the past when people thought the site would close down.

Second this - "Going away" sounds like a rumor and regardless, last.fm has an extremely accurate and impressive metadata library 1
