spaxx24 0 Posted October 13, 2021 Posted October 13, 2021 Hi, Last night i tried to watch a Bluray rip, first I started it without subtitles and it worked fine, then i activated them (the ones that came with the rip) and the playback was very slow. It stopped to buffer like ever 20 seconds, making the movie unwatchable. I deactivated subtitles and then it worked again. I'm not at home at the moment, but I tried to deactivate some setting at the bottom of the transcoding page in settings (said something about subtitles), no difference. I have watched other things with emby and not had this problem, with subtitles. Both movies and series. I tried to google around and I found others that have had the same problem but didn't really find any solution. In this case I used Kodi instead and it worked perfectly, but I like Emby more and would like to use that for playback off all my media.

rodainas 191 Posted October 15, 2021 Posted October 15, 2021 TranscodeReasons=AudioCodecNotSupported You are playing a Remux with DTS-HD MA audio on a Nvidia Shield, of you dont want to transcode that you can do passthrough to a receiver with proper audio codec suppport. 1
GrimReaper 4762 Posted October 15, 2021 Posted October 15, 2021 (edited) Not only that, you have excessive number of subtitles there (all being PGSSUB), burning-in graphical subs is very CPU expensive process by itself, let alone when transcoding 4K HEVC HDR10 DTS-HD MA in software only, as your QuickSync Intel HD 5500 (Broadwell, 2015) offers no hardware accelleration. Your should convert that to more streaming-friendly format and get rid of un-needed subtitles. Edited October 15, 2021 by GrimReaper Typo 1
spaxx24 0 Posted October 15, 2021 Author Posted October 15, 2021 I'm really bad with this stuff, is there some setting I should do for the passthrough remux? And remove all the other subtitle files from the folder? Why did it work perfectly in Kodi?
rodainas 191 Posted October 15, 2021 Posted October 15, 2021 Not sure, but I think Kodi is decoding audio to PCM.
spaxx24 0 Posted October 15, 2021 Author Posted October 15, 2021 Im using a Sonos soundbar and sound system. I tried to go to settings and disblaed "convert unsupported audio to dolby digital" and then it worked fine, but in Pcm. In Kodi it plays with Dolby Digital. I guess I have to watch the DTS codec movies in Kodi if I want subtitles and no PCM
Luke 42085 Posted October 15, 2021 Posted October 15, 2021 Can you try side loading our standard Android app on the shield and see how that compares? https://emby.media/emby-for-android.html Thanks

It is going to do the same as this: 5 hours ago, spaxx24 said: I tried to go to settings and disblaed "convert unsupported audio to dolby digital" and then it worked fine, but in Pcm The issue here is the need to burn in those PGS subs. Your server simply isn't fast enough to do that smoothly. You can select a different audio track that won't require converting, allow the audio track to be decode by the app (the PCM option), disable the subs, OR obtain external text based subs that won't require burning in. The next server release may make it so that your server is able to handle this burn in process.
Luke 42085 Posted October 15, 2021 Posted October 15, 2021 Just to clarify, the next release of the server has improvements to burring in subtitles with transcoding, when hardware transcoding is used. It will not be a miracle worker though, and in general, burning in subtitles is always going to be a resource-intensive process, and text subtitles will always be more efficient. 1
