danergo 37 Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 (edited) Hi! I know I can have multiple versions of the same media by renaming my media to the containing folder and adding " - versionname.ext" to it. This works as intended, although I think people need that very rare, and (as I) we don't remember the correct syntax. It would a be great to have an option in the metadata page where we can select one file and mark it as a version by providing our preferred name of the version. Then do this on the second, third, etc file, rescan the library, and done. What do you think? (Or we already have this somewhere, somehow?) Second thing which is a bit different, but belongs to here: I have added a "Conversion" to one of my media, to convert it down for lower end clients. It worked pretty well, now I have two versions when I'm browsing: But, I realized I don't need it (as it was just a test), and removed that from the Conversions page: Neither I have downloads: And after I removed and rescanned the library, this conversion has not been deleted, so I still have the "custom" version listed. I can't see that from the metadata manager either, so my only way to really remove the conversion is to delete through an SSH shell. I believe this is a bug, when I remove the conversion, it should remove physically the converted file, no? Thank you! Edited October 11, 2021 by danergo

I need this very often as i have a lot 4K movies additionally to the normal 1080 Versions. It isn't hard to name the movies correct. EG: Moviename (year) - 1080P.ext Moviename (year) - 4K.ext this is everything you need to do. all after the normal naming declares the version so you will see 1080P and 4K in your Versions Dropdown. You don't need to enter the whole name again as you already know in which Movie, Episode you are, so it makes no sense to give the item the full name again. Simply 1080p, 4K, 3D etc. and this is what you see in the dropdown for your movie, tvshow there is nothing more to do. Edited October 11, 2021 by Painkiller8818
danergo 37 Posted October 11, 2021 Author Posted October 11, 2021 Thanks. I know how shall I name the files to make Emby recognize them. How could you rename the movies from Emby? That would be the main purpose of my question.

danergo 37 Posted October 11, 2021 Author Posted October 11, 2021 Luke, no, let me rephrase with steps took: 1.) I have downloaded a movie with name 'taxi.5.1080p.blueray.fromusera.mkv' 2.) I identified it as "Taxi 5", and let Auto-organize putting into a directory, so it will be moved here: "Taxi 5 (2017)/taxi.5.1080p.blueray.fromusera.mkv'. 3.) I realized it's too "heavy" for my lower end devices, and I didn't want my NAS to convert it: I found another one and downloaded with name 'taxi.5.1080p.custom.mkv' 4.) I identified this later version too as "Taxi 5", and let Auto-organize moving it into the same directory. Now the directory is as the follow: Taxi 5 (2017)/taxi.5.1080p.blueray.fromusera.mkv Taxi 5 (2017)/taxi.5.1080p.custom.mkv Only the blueray is displayed in the library, and my original question's purpose was to find out if it's possible through metadata editor to rename physically these files in the filesystem, to let Emby recognize them as versions of each other. I know I can rename them via SSH/SCP access, but I'm looking for the way/possibility to do that from the Emby interface. I know I can change the display title, but that's good for me, I don't want to change that. I need to show Emby, that those two files shall be considered as versions. NB, if I rename them to these, Emby does recognize them: Taxi 5 (2017)/Taxi 5 (2017) - blueray.fromusera.mkv Taxi 5 (2017)/Taxi 5 (2017) - custom.mkv As versions of "blueray.fromusera" and "custom". Sorry for being blurry.
Luke 42079 Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 OK as far as physically renaming, no, there's nothing in the metadata editor for that.

The naming scheme for the media is incorrect for automatic multi-versioning Quote Each version must begin with the folder name, followed by " - ". But suspect the plugin would be a better option for you. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/63643-automatic-version-grouping-for-movies/
