clarkss12 304 Posted October 8, 2021 Posted October 8, 2021 I have a 4k movie that uses two disc (part 1 and part 2)......... How do I name them so Emby sees both files to play as one movie?? thanks.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted October 8, 2021 Posted October 8, 2021 Well file stacking should play both discs during playback but have not tested this in awhile, and display second disc as addtional part. Most will suggest merging the discs.

That is I use a tool (FreeMake) to join the two halves of the movie and then name the movie just like I would if it were originally in one piece. I even use the same tool for some old movie serials. The reason I use FreeMake is I am comfortable with it and I run it on a "utility" computer so the fact that it is not as fast as some others does not matter. There are tools that do the joining more directly and are much faster (Mainly for MKV files) but just having one file to deal with is much easier for me. Edited October 8, 2021 by Gilgamesh_48 1

But I prefer to keep it simple.......
clarkss12 304 Posted October 8, 2021 Author Posted October 8, 2021 (edited) I made the name to use this format. **Split video files (file stacking)**. Using Chrome running on Windows, I see an "additional parts" thumbnail under the main movie information. It does play the second disk. Problem::: I don't see the "additional parts" indicated under the Android TV version of Emby........ So, can't play part two. Edit: Part 2 also shows up and plays using Emby Theater under Windows. I would question what is simpler, two files that get merged on the fly or one file that just simply works. Getting the two files into one is also simple. You just fire up whatever software you use to merge and load the two files and press go. It does not, I believe, get any simpler than that. I try to do everything by the K.I.S.S. principal. The time it takes to run programs does not come into my feelings about what is simple. To me it is simple if little of my time is taken and the result just works.

I think there is even one from MKV family of tools. I think that may be called MKVmerge or MKVjoin or something like that. I even think I have read that there are some that are so simple that they make zero alterations to the origin files and basically just stick two or more together. I do not know for sure as I have not had a reason to look for quite a while but I think there are tools that join two or more files without modification and complete the task in less than a minute on an average computer.

Just found out that I don't need to merge those files, Emby plays the other disc without my intervention. thanks
