GUIDE 1 Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 So if I grab a domain name embyiptv123.com and forwarded it to my ip 123.123.123.123:8096 then on emby under network external domain and paste in my domain name embyiptv123.com could I just connect to emby with it on the apps by leaving the port field blank. Or should I just forward the domain to 123.123.123.123 without the port and connect with emby apps using 123.123.123.123.com:8096
Luke 42085 Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Hi, well the port wouldn't be blank unless you make it blank. By default the apps will have 8096 in their manual connection screens.

So pointing a domain to emby is against the rules when the ip address changes all the time and I'm not home I can't use emby on my phone unless I go home to get my ip address. This is useless to me, I just cancelled my emby subscription and purchased an iptv app so I'm good.

We just don't want you creating a domain name that looks like it is actually US and also is a provider of potentially illegal content. Thanks. P.S. Also, if you use Emby Connect, then you don't have to worry about the IP address changing either as it will act as a sort of dynamic DNS for you.
Carlo 4561 Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 The domain you mention does not point to any IP address. But let's assume you registry "mygreatmedia.com" and point this to your home's IP address. From the internet in a browser you would enter http://mygreatmedia.com:8096 for non SSL connection From the internet in a browser you would enter https://mygreatmedia.com:8920 for an SSL connection If you prefer to use the common ports of 80 and 443 instead you would setup your router to forward like this: WAN IP:port 80 to Server IP:8096 WAN IP: port 443 to Server IP:8920 Then in Emby Server's Network menu you setup Local http port number: 8096 Local https port number: 8920 Public http port number: 80 Public https port number: 443 You would then use port 443 in any Emby apps. From a web browser you could use either http://mygreatmedia.com or https://mygreatmedia.com because a browser knows to use 80 for non SSL connections and 443 for SSL connections if not specified. Hope that helps 1

Handling of ports takes place regardless of whether you use a domain name or an plain IP address. Note also, you can only set up SSL if using a domain name, as the security certificate is tied to the name. Paul 1
