What happens when content goes is removed/missing?

I had a bunch of stuff go missing from Emby today in my TV library, upon investigation, I realized a file share had dropped off. I rebooted and everything is back, and I'm re-scanning and hoping Emby puts it back as well. It's found it all, but since it seems to have gotten removed, it appears to have to re-do the content ID etc.

It's made me realize, I don't know exactly what happens when something gets removed, I'm not clear if what I'm seeing is because the file share was unavailable and Emby started removing things, or if something has gone wrong in my Emby install and that's why things got removed. Does Emby automatically delete it/remove it from the library? If so, can I suppress this behavior/require an explicit action to delete content, like Plex does?

Thanks!

Hi, one of the best ways to help in a situation like this is to make sure you have NFO files written into the media folders (library setting).

This way if Emby needs to reload the library (like what happened to you) it can pull the info back from the NFO.

Ok, I've enabled the NFO saver. I've tried rescanning a metadata refresh, but neither seems to be putting the nfo files there. Is it possible to get those to be created for existing items?

Forcing a refresh of metadata is the easiest way.

Huh, it didn't seem to do it the first time I did a refresh, but when I tried again, it started writing the nfo files. Thanks.
