hostedbyjake 0 Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 Plex is obviously the ring leader in the alternative media hosting space. Well supported, community, brand name effect. So what leads fellows like myself to turn to the lesser known cousin Emby? I can't speak for everyone, but the same person that would want to host their own media service, usually are the same ones actively trying to detach from the corporate dependency these companies impose. You go to Plex, you get a fresh breath of air, and then realize it's the same thing packaged differently. Then we arrive here, hoping this is the one yet to be tainted by those green benjamins. Now with that in mind, this is your demographic. There's nothing wrong with making money, but jamming Emby premier down your throat as you just hook up your first smart device is exactly the issue most have sought out seeking to avoid. I have no doubt plenty of people would open their wallets and support this project, myself included, but angle in such a way that it is to support a vision, not unlock a paywalled feature.

roaku 842 Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 A business has a problem if their target demographic is defined by people who don't want to pay for any of the stuff it spends a lot of time and money to build. I don't think Emby has that problem though.
Luke 42086 Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 Hi there, we work very hard on Emby and we thank you for your support.
