Dreakon13 143 Posted October 2, 2021 Posted October 2, 2021 (edited) Correct me if I'm wrong, but if my internet goes out for a week or so and I'm just using Emby on my local network, I lose the Emby Premiere features because it can no longer authenticate that my lifetime license key is valid right? If that's true, that would mean after a week without internet I'd lose the ability to hardware transcode? I'm probably stating the obvious here, but I just want to be sure because my server absolutely needs hardware transcoding, it gets brought to its knees pretty quickly otherwise. I could understand losing most other nice-to-have features, since I know it'd be pretty easy to exploit if there weren't some sort of "phoning home" going on for the license check, but HW transcoding is essential for a lot of people I'm sure and losing it would hurt pretty bad. Especially considering I did pay for it. I've been having some nasty, uncooperative internet issues recently. It hasn't gotten that bad yet, but it's got me thinking. GrimReaper 4763 Posted October 2, 2021 Posted October 2, 2021 (edited) You'll get few weeks running on cache, I reckon it was like 3 weeks longest I've got before needing to phone home. But it might create you problems with client apps sooner than that. Edited October 2, 2021 by GrimReaper Typo 1
Dreakon13 143 Posted October 2, 2021 Author Posted October 2, 2021 (edited) I'm sure it probably won't happen but I'd love it if they could find a way to permanently enable offline hardware transcoding for lifetime Premiere users. I get if you're paying in increments that it'd constantly need to check each month or 6 months or what have you, and I get they probably don't want to be too generous with Premiere features or people would abuse it... but any amount of time leading up to my server potentially falling apart hinging on that one feature is disheartening as an honest lifetime Premiere user. ebr 16199 Posted October 3, 2021 Posted October 3, 2021 Hi. Reaper is correct, for server features it will take closer to three weeks for your cache to expire. 1
