Subtitles selection

In my pc I prefer to use Emby web in chromium instead of Emby Theater.

Why... I love having a single program handing all my media needs. I have there as nice dials, Emby, YouTube, Disney+, Netflix, HBO Max, GFN, Stadia etc

I just love it and Chromium can handle HEVC so I can use Chromium as my single media solution without transcoding.

To make this work I have on all my media external subtitles. an example of how I name them: movie.en.default.srt.

My media also have the same subtitle as internal.

This way Emby web instantly chooses the external subtitle and everything works perfectly.

Now my issue... in my TV I use the Android TV app.

For whatever reason the external subtitle (I can see it in my subtitle selection) never shows any subtitle.

I don't care about that, because if I go to subtitle options I can select the internal identical subtitle and they work fine.

So what I am requesting.

Is there any way to make Emby to disable internal or external subtitles per user?

I don't mind having to login as a different user when I watch on my TV.

Please if there is any way, please let me now because it's a little annoying having to select in every movie and in every episode at first launch the internal subtitle.

I know that I could just use Kodi in my TV to access my server and Kodi has all the options to always select the internal subtitle, but I like Emby TV app more.

It's also not an option to make changes to my library.

If I delete the internal subtitle on my media, subtitles are not showing in my TV, if I delete the external subtitle Emby web will have to extract it and my media load so much slower there.

I can't make changes that would cover both scenarios.

So the only way I can think of is Emby having more subtitle options per user, like disabling external subtitles.

If there is any other way please let me know.

Hi, why are the subtitles empty? Is the file actually empty, or are you saying there's a problem in the TV app?

Hi, thank you for your reply.

I don't know why no subtitle is shown in the app, in subtitle options the external subtitle track exists as an option and it's pre-selected.

But no subtitle is shown. But since I have an identical internal subtitle in all my media I would prefer to use this.

I take care my media a lot and all of them have only 1 internal subtitle of my choice.

Internal subtitles rock for me in all apps and they always work because apps use mpv if I am correct, I wouldn't use external subtitles at all, but I extract my internal subtitles because of Emby web (browser limitations on embedded subtitles).

I would love being able to limit the selection of external subtitles just to emby web.

OK, I made some other test by building a new server without external subtitles and with only the internal available.

My library has strm files, so the information of the files are not available before playback.

Emby apps don't find the subtitles after playback starts because they don't have the information of the file.

So you need to close the video and play it again or to manually select the subtitle track.

Too much hassle for me, I think I will end up using Emby web in my pc and Kodi in all other devices to connect to my server.

Kodi can select the embedded subtitles itself after playback starts even without the info of the file in all my devices.

Thank you for your previous reply Luke, the ideal would for me would be the apps to show the external subtitles, but unfortunately they don't.

You should update that to latest beta .44, with those being strm files.

Thank you. I was using the latest stable versions.

I updated to betas (4.7.0.12 and 2.0.44g) and external subtitles show perfectly in android tv.

Thank you so much for your help.
