TV series not filtered by maximum allowed parental rating

View one of your TV series in the metadata view.

Erase the parental rating for the entire show (select the top selection in the select menu).

Go to the first season > first episode of that season and change the parental rating to blank

Go back to the top level TV show and click the Refresh button, and verify MB3 updated the parental rating metadata

Return to the first season > first episode and verify MB3 added the parental rating to the episode

I just did this exact process and got no rating at the season or episode level.

So, I still think that something else must be doing that.  More than likely, the data is saved in the local xml files for the individual episodes.

However, as I said before, I don't think this has anything to do with your issue as those items having a rating should not be a problem.  I confirmed this by adding ratings to some of my episodes and everything still works as it should.

Any idea why the ratings would be filtering for movies and not TV shows? It used to work, but hasn't for a little while now (probably 6 months or so).

Have you tried creating a new user and setting parental controls on it?

Good idea Happy2Play!  I created a new user and I set the parental rating to TV-Y. Just like the other restricted account, it is filtering out the movies but not the TV shows.

Is your server port-forwarded properly such that you could PM me credentials and I could get on it from here?

Sent you a PM. Thanks ebr!

Okay, I'm just as lost as I was before.  I poked around and confirmed you are not going crazy.  The parental ratings appear to be ignored completely for your TV area and I have no idea why.  We may have to pull @@Luke in and see if he has any ideas.

Try one more thing for me though - add a new series and don't let MCM or any other metadata program touch it.  Use our metadata manager to give it a rating of TV-MA and then see if it gets hidden from your kids user.  Just to rule out any legacy metadata issues that we may be dealing with.

OK, so this was a little frustrating having to do this "manually" for the first time. I just chose a TV show that I know is above TV-G (Dexter) and I added a folder to the TV Shows folder. The problem is that MB3 isn't recognizing the folder as a TV show even though I created a dummy series.xml file in the folder. The item in the metadata editor doesn't allow an external ID to be entered (so I could put the series in the theTVDB field), so it's not picking it up. I haven't setup the auto-organizer because MCM usually handles all of this for me beautifully. Would love to have MB3 replace MCM, but maybe I'm just not understanding how everything works (or should work).

Create a "Season 1" folder inside your Dexter folder.

Ahhh, ok.

I'm running into other issues now. Ugh. I deleted the file using Windows explorer from a client machine and deleted the folder on the server, and as MB3 is always up on my changes, it re-created the folder for me. So, usually you can delete it a second time and MB3 will just recognize you don't want that folder anymore the second time, but this time I tried to use the metadata manager to delete the folder. Well, there was absolutely nothing in the folder, but once I put in my multiplicity challenge answer, the browser just gave me the loading icon and didn't do anything. Well, I went to the server after about 5 minutes and manually tried to delete the folder, but that's wreaking havoc on my server - I can't even see the shared folder anymore on my client, and I can't even get to the folder on the server. Something major happened.

I'm going to reboot the server now to clear this error, but there's some issues with the deletion using the metadata manager inside the web client.

I saved a season folder under Dexter, and after a server reboot and MB3 rescan, I was able to identify the series and update the metadata. The TV series was saved as TV-MA. I logged on as the restricted TV-G user, and that account still allows that user to view the series. This is completely outside of MCM, so all the metadata was generated and contained inside of MB3.

Looks like I need some professional help from @@Luke.

first i would double check using the top-right corner that you're logged in as the user who has the TV-G limit. then i would double check their rating configuration to confirm it is actually set at TV-G. You can even try re-saving the user configuration. If it still persists i'll have to look over teamviewer.

I already checked all of that for him and re set the values and saved them etc.

@@Luke, I just sent you connection info for the server.

Let me know if you need an actual Team Viewer session on the server itself.

I would love to hear if you figured out a resolution to this problem.

It's being looked into.

I noticed that my restricted account was showing most of the library, but seemed to be filtering out a small number of TV series. After further investigation and testing, I can confirm that 3.0.5490.2 is filtering TV Series strictly based on custom rating and not Parental rating. If I add a custom rating to a TV series, it will filter it out appropriately, but it does not filter based on the downloaded parental rating.

This must be a regression error in the code, because for a while now, I can only get TV Shows to filter if I apply a custom rating to the program. I am on Version 3.0.5892.0. I have one account that has the Parental Control applied to Movies and TV Shows with the maximum allowed parental rating of G/E/EC/TV-G.

If I have the Parental Rating above TV-G applied to a TV show, it will still show up on that account. If I then apply a Custom Rating to that TV show of the same exact rating as the Parental Rating (TV-PG or higher), it will remove it from the TV Shows listings. For some reason, the Parental Rating setting does not work, only the custom rating.

Posted

I can't reproduce this and have almost no custom ratings in my data.

Is it possible that your custom rating fields have some sort of invalid value in them?

I gave my restricted account access to manage the server so I could change edit metadata. This also gives me an opportunity to see what they're seeing when I login to their account.

I can confirm that the account is set as shown.

When I login to the account, I can see a few that are set with only the regular rating that are showing in the account. I reset the custom to a setting and then back to blank, and I'm still seeing the TV show.

When I add the custom rating, the item disappears from the TV Shows page, so for some reason, the parental rating isn't causing the item to be filtered off the page.

I've been on Emby for a while now, so I'm not sure if this is because of a corruption due to an upgrade or something.

Hi all, sorry to bring this up again but I'm wondering if any resolution to this was ever found. I've just gone through our entire movies list to fix the ratings on some of the shows that "shouldn't" have shown up in my daughter's movie list. I've started doing the same with TV shows but no matter where or what I change they don't drop out of her shows list. Some shows are being filtered out though so I'm not sure what the difference is between series.

Hi @@ExMPBob, can you please discuss some specific examples as well as what actions you took? thanks !

Hi @@Rumbaar, thanks!!! That seems to be it. I've changed a couple of series parental ratings to levels that should disappear from my daughter's view. After running a media library scan, the shows drop off of her view. I'll update the others and test again but this seems to be it. Just strange that you can update movies and they drop off based on parental rating straight away.
